Testamento de Isaque 9

1Ele me conduziu e me levou a um rio de fogo, cujas águas eram altas e seu barulho era como o barulho do trovão do céu.

1He led me on and brought me to a fiery river, the waters of which were an ell high, and its noise like the noise of heaven's thunder.

2E vi uma multidão de almas submersas nele; e os que estavam naquele rio gritaram e choraram em voz alta, e houve grande comoção e muitos gemidos.

2And I saw a host of souls submerged in it; and those who were in that river cried out and wept aloud, and there was a great commotion and much groaning.

3Mas é um fogo perspicaz que não toca os justos, mas que queima os pecadores e os ferve no fedor que os rodeia.

3But it is a discerning fire that does not touch the righteous, yet burns up sinners and boils them in the stench that surrounds them.

4Vi também o poço do abismo, cuja fumaça subia em nuvens; Vi homens afundados nela rangendo os dentes, gritando e lamentando, e cada um gemia.

4I saw also the pit of the abyss, the smoke of which went up in clouds; I saw men sunk in it grinding their teeth, crying out and wailing, and each one was groaning.

5O anjo me disse: Olha e vê estes outros também. E quando olhei para eles, o anjo me disse: Estes são os que cometeram o pecado de Sodoma; estes estão realmente em grande perigo.

5The angel said to me, Look and see these others too. And when I had looked at them, the angel said to me, These are those who have committed the sin of Sodom; these are indeed in great distress.

6Vi também covas cheias de vermes que não dormem; Vi Abdemerouchos que é o encarregado dos castigos, fez tudo de fogo, ameaçando os algozes no inferno e dizendo: Bata neles até que saibam que Deus existe.

6I saw also pits full of worms that do not sleep; I saw Abdemerouchos who is in charge of the punishments, made all of fire, threatening the tormentors in hell and saying, Beat them until they know that God is.

7Eu vi uma casa construída de pedra de fogo, e havia homens adultos embaixo dela, gritando e lamentando. O anjo me disse: Olhe com seus olhos e contemple os castigos.

7I saw a house built of fiery stone, and there were grown men underneath it, crying out and wailing. The angel said to me, Look with your eyes and contemplate the punishments.

8Eu disse ao anjo: Meus olhos não puderam suportar; por quanto tempo essas punições devem durar? Ele me disse: Até que o Deus misericordioso tenha piedade.

8I said to the angel, My eyes could not endure it; for how long must these punishments go on? He said to me, Until the merciful God has pity.
