Testamento de Isaque 8

1Agora, quando as pessoas reunidas ao redor dele o ouviram, gritaram em alta voz, dizendo: Isto é justo e justo. Amém.

1Now when the people gathered about him heard him, they cried out aloud saying, This is meet and right. Amen.

2Mas o velho amante de Deus ficou em silêncio: puxou o cobertor: cobriu o rosto. E o povo e o padre ficaram em silêncio, para que ele pudesse descansar um pouco.

2But the God-loving old man was silent: he drew up his blanket: he covered his face. And the people and the priest were silent, so that he could rest himself a little.

3Mas o anjo de seu pai Abraão veio até ele e o levou aos céus. Ele viu terrores e tumultos espalhados por um lado e por outro; e foi um terror e um tumulto terrível de se ver.

3But the angel of his father Abraham came to him and took him up into the heavens. He saw terrors and tumults spread abroad on this side and on that; and it was a terror and a tumult fearful to behold.

4Alguns tinham cara de camelo, outros tinham cara de leão: alguns tinham cara de cachorro, outros tinham apenas um olho e tinham pinças nas mãos, com três dedos de comprimento, todos de ferro.

4Some had the face of a camel, others had the face of a lion: some had the face of a dog, others had but one eye and had tongs in their hands, three ells long, all of iron.

5Olhei, e eis que foi trazido um homem, e os que o trouxeram foram com ele. Quando chegaram aos animais, os que o acompanhavam afastaram-se para o lado: o leão avançou em sua direção, rasgou-o em pedacinhos e engoliu-o; então o vomitou e ele voltou a ser como ele mesmo; e a próxima besta o tratou da mesma maneira.

5I looked, and behold, a man was brought, and those who brought him went with him. When they reached the beasts, those who went with him withdrew to one side: the lion advanced towards him, tore him apart into little pieces, and swallowed him; it then vomited him up, and he became like himself again; and the next beast treated him in just the same way.

6Em suma, eles o passaram de um para outro; cada um o rasgaria em pedaços, o engoliria e depois o vomitaria; e ele se tornaria como ele mesmo novamente.

6In short, they passed him on from one to the other; each one would tear him into pieces, swallow him, and then vomit him up; and he would become like himself again.

7Eu disse ao anjo: Que pecado cometeu este homem, meu senhor, para que tudo isso lhe seja feito?

7I said to the angel: What sin has this man committed, my lord, that all this is done to him?

8O anjo me disse: Este homem que você está olhando agora teve uma briga com seu vizinho e morreu sem que eles se reconciliassem. Veja, ele foi entregue a cinco principais algozes: eles passam um ano atormentando-o por cada hora que ele passou brigando com seu vizinho.

8The angel said to me: This man you are looking at now had a quarrel with his neighbour, and he died without their being reconciled. See, he has been handed over to five chief tormentors: they spend a year tormenting him for every hour he spent Quarreling with his neighbour.

9O anjo também me disse: Meu amado Isaque, você acha que estes são os únicos? Acredite em mim, Isaque, amado de Deus, existem seiscentos mil algozes.

9The angel also said to me: My beloved Isaac, do you think these are the only ones? Believe me Isaac, beloved of God, there are six hundred thousand tormentors.

10Eles passam um ano atormentando um homem por cada hora que ele passa pecando – isto é, se ele não se arrependeu, antes de sair do corpo.

10They spend a year tormenting a man for every hour that he spends sinning – if he did not repent, that is, before he went forth from the body.
