Testamento de Isaque 5

1Enquanto o velho homem que amava a Deus, nosso pai Isaque, dizia isso, toda a sua família se reuniu em volta dele e chorou.

1While the God-loving old man, our father Isaac, was saying this, all his household gathered round him and wept.

2Seu filho contou a todos os seus parentes, e eles foram até ele em lágrimas. Ora, nosso pai Isaque havia feito para si um quarto em sua casa; e quando sua visão começou a falhar, ele se retirou para dentro dela e permaneceu lá por cem anos, jejuando diariamente até a noite, e oferecendo para si e sua família um animal jovem para suas almas.

2His son told all his relations, and they came to him in tears. Now our father Isaac had made for himself a bedroom in his house; and when his sight began to fail he withdrew into it and remained there for a hundred years, fasting daily until evening, and offering for himself and his household a young animal for their soul.

3E ele passou metade da noite em oração e louvor a Deus. Assim ele viveu uma vida ascética durante cem anos.

3And he spent half the night in prayer and praise of God. Thus he lived an ascetic life for a hundred years.

4E ele manteve três períodos de quarenta dias de jejum a cada ano, sem beber vinho, nem comer frutas, nem dormir em sua cama. E ele orava e dava graças a Deus continuamente.

4And he kept three periods of forty days as fasts each year, neither drinking wine nor eating fruit nor sleeping on his bed. And he prayed and gave thanks to God continually.
