Testamento de Abraão 17

1Então Abraão levantou-se e foi para sua casa, e a Morte também o acompanhou até lá.

1Then Abraham arose, and went into his house, and Death also accompanied him there.

2E Abraão subiu para o seu quarto, e a Morte subiu com ele. E Abraão deitou-se no seu leito, e a Morte veio e sentou-se aos seus pés.

2And Abraham went up into his chamber, and Death went up with him. And Abraham lay down upon his couch, and Death came and sat by his feet.

3Então Abraão disse: Retira-te, afasta-te de mim, porque desejo descansar no meu leito. A morte disse: não partirei até que tire o seu espírito de você.

3Then Abraham said, Depart, depart from me, for I desire to rest upon my couch. Death said, I will not depart until I take your spirit from you.

4Abraão lhe disse: Pelo Deus imortal eu te ordeno que me diga a verdade. Você é a morte? A Morte lhe disse: Eu sou a Morte. Eu sou o destruidor do mundo.

4Abraham said to him, By the immortal God I charge you to tell me the truth. Are you death? Death said to him, I am Death. I am the destroyer of the world.

5Abraão disse: Eu te imploro, já que você é a Morte, diga-me se você vem assim para todos com tanta justiça, glória e beleza?

5Abraham said, I beseech you, since you are Death, tell me if you come thus to all in such fairness and glory and beauty?

6A morte disse: Não, meu Senhor Abraão, por sua justiça, e o mar ilimitado de sua hospitalidade, e a grandeza de seu amor para com Deus tornou-se uma coroa em minha cabeça, e em beleza e grande paz e gentileza eu me aproximo dos justos,

6Death said, Nay, my Lord Abraham, for your righteousnesses, and the boundless sea of your hospitality, and the greatness of your love towards God has become a crown upon my head, and in beauty and great peace and gentleness I approach the righteous,

7mas aos pecadores venho com grande corrupção e ferocidade e com a maior amargura e com olhar feroz e impiedoso.

7but to sinners I come in great corruption and fierceness and the greatest bitterness and with fierce and pitiless look.

8Abraão disse: Rogo-te, ouve-me e mostra-me a tua ferocidade e toda a tua corrupção e amargura. E a Morte disse: Você não pode ver minha ferocidade, muito justo Abraão.

8Abraham said, I beseech you, hearken to me, and show me your fierceness and all your corruption and bitterness. And Death said, You can not behold my fierceness, most righteous Abraham.

9Abraão disse: Sim, poderei contemplar todo o seu furor por meio do nome do Deus vivo, pois o poder do meu Deus que está no céu está comigo.

9Abraham said, Yes, I shall be able to behold all your fierceness by means of the name of the living God, for the might of my God that is in heaven is with me.

10Então a Morte despiu toda a sua formosura e beleza, e toda a sua glória e a forma como o sol com a qual ele estava vestido, e vestiu sobre si um manto de tirano, e tornou sua aparência sombria e mais feroz do que todos os tipos de animais selvagens, e mais impura do que todas as impurezas.

10Then Death put off all his comeliness and beauty, and all his glory and the form like the sun with which he was clothed, and put upon himself a tyrant's robe, and made his appearance gloomy and fiercer than all kind of wild beasts, and more unclean than all uncleanness.

11E ele mostrou a Abraão sete cabeças ardentes de serpentes e quatorze faces, (uma) de fogo flamejante e de grande ferocidade, e uma face de escuridão, e uma face mais sombria de uma víbora, e uma face de um precipício mais terrível, e uma face mais feroz que uma áspide, e uma face de um leão terrível, e uma face de um cerastes e basilisco.

11And he showed to Abraham seven fiery heads of serpents and fourteen faces, (one) of flaming fire and of great fierceness, and a face of darkness, and a most gloomy face of a viper, and a face of a most terrible precipice, and a face fiercer than an asp, and a face of a terrible lion, and a face of a cerastes and basilisk.

12Ele mostrou-lhe também uma face de uma cimitarra de fogo, e uma face de espada, e uma face de relâmpago, iluminando terrivelmente, e um barulho de trovão terrível.

12He showed him also a face of a fiery scimitar, and a sword-bearing face, and a face of lightning, lightening terribly, and a noise of dreadful thunder.

13Ele mostrou-lhe também outra face de um mar feroz e tempestuoso, e um rio feroz e impetuoso, e uma terrível serpente de três cabeças, e uma taça misturada com venenos, e em suma ele mostrou-lhe grande ferocidade e amargura insuportável, e toda doença mortal como o odor da Morte.

13He showed him also another face of a fierce stormy sea, and a fierce rushing river, and a terrible three-headed serpent, and a cup mingled with poisons, and in short he showed to him great fierceness and unendurable bitterness, and every mortal disease as of the odor of Death.

14E devido à grande amargura e ferocidade morreram servos e servas em número de cerca de sete mil, e o justo Abraão caiu na indiferença da morte, de modo que seu espírito falhou.

14And from the great bitterness and fierceness there died servants and maid-servants in number about seven thousand, and the righteous Abraham came into indifference of death so that his spirit failed him.
