Testamento de Abraão 10

1E o arcanjo Miguel desceu e levou Abraão sobre uma carruagem de querubins, e o exaltou nos ares do céu, e o conduziu sobre a nuvem junto com sessenta anjos, e Abraão subiu na carruagem sobre toda a terra.

1And the archangel Michael went down and took Abraham upon a chariot of the cherubim, and exalted him into the air of heaven, and led him upon the cloud together with sixty angels, and Abraham ascended upon the chariot over all the earth.

2E Abraão viu o mundo como era naquele dia, alguns arando, outros conduzindo carroças, em um lugar homens pastoreando rebanhos, e em outro vigiando-os à noite, e dançando, tocando e harpando, em outro lugar homens lutando e disputando a lei, em outro lugar homens chorando e tendo os mortos em memória.

2And Abraham saw the world as it was in that day, some ploughing, others driving wagons, in one place men herding flocks, and in another watching them by night, and dancing and playing and harping, in another place men striving and contending at law, elsewhere men weeping and having the dead in remembrance.

3Ele viu também os recém-casados ​​recebidos com honra e, numa palavra, viu todas as coisas que se fazem no mundo, tanto boas como más.

3He saw also the newly-wedded received with honor, and in a word he saw all things that are done in the world, both good and bad.

4Abraão, portanto, passando por eles, viu homens empunhando espadas, empunhando espadas afiadas nas mãos, e Abraão perguntou ao capitão-chefe: Quem são estes?

4Abraham therefore passing over them saw men bearing swords, wielding in their hands sharpened swords, and Abraham asked the chief-captain, Who are these?

5O capitão-chefe disse: Estes são ladrões que pretendem cometer assassinato, roubar, queimar e destruir.

5The chief-captain said, These are thieves, who intend to commit murder, and to steal and burn and destroy.

6Abraão disse: Senhor, Senhor, ouve a minha voz e ordena que os animais selvagens saiam da floresta e os devorem. E enquanto ele falava, feras selvagens saíram da floresta e os devoraram.

6Abraham said, Lord, Lord, hear my voice, and command that wild beasts may come out of the wood and devour them. And even as he spoke there came wild beasts out of the wood and devoured them.

7E ele viu em outro lugar um homem e uma mulher cometendo fornicação um com o outro, e disse: Senhor, Senhor, ordena que a terra se abra e os engula, e imediatamente a terra foi fendida e os engoliu.

7And he saw in another place a man with a woman committing fornication with each other, and said, Lord, Lord, command that the earth may open and swallow them, and straightway the earth was cleft and swallowed them.

8E ele viu em outro lugar homens cavando uma casa e levando embora os bens de outros homens, e ele disse: Senhor, Senhor, ordena que desça fogo do céu e os consuma. E enquanto ele falava, desceu fogo do céu e os consumiu.

8And he saw in another place men digging through a house, and carrying away other men's possessions, and he said, Lord, Lord, command that fire may come down from heaven and consume them. And even as he spoke, fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

9E imediatamente veio uma voz do céu ao capitão-chefe, dizendo assim, ó capitão-chefe Miguel, ordene que a carruagem pare e afaste Abraão para que ele não veja toda a terra, pois se ele contemplar todos os que vivem na maldade, ele destruirá toda a criação.

9And straightway there came a voice from heaven to the chief-captain, saying thus, O chief-captain Michael, command the chariot to stop, and turn Abraham away that he may not see all the earth, for if he behold all that live in wickedness, he will destroy all creation.

10Pois eis que Abraão não pecou e não tem piedade dos pecadores, mas eu fiz o mundo e não desejo destruir nenhum deles, mas esperar pela morte do pecador, até que ele se converta e viva.

10For behold, Abraham has not sinned, and has no pity on sinners, but I have made the world, and desire not to destroy any one of them, but wait for the death of the sinner, till he be converted and live.

11Mas leve Abraão até a primeira porta do céu, para que ali ele veja os julgamentos e recompensas, e se arrependa das almas dos pecadores que ele destruiu.

11But take Abraham up to the first gate of heaven, that he may see there the judgments and recompenses, and repent of the souls of the sinners that he has destroyed.
