Salmos 78

1Escutai a minha lei, povo meu; inclinai os vossos ouvidos às palavras da minha boca.

1Maschil of Asaph.] Give ear, O my people, {to} my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. {Maschil...: or, A Psalm for Asaph to give instruction}

2Abrirei a minha boca numa parábola; falarei enigmas da antiguidade.

2I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

3Os quais temos ouvido e sabido, e nossos pais no-los têm contado.

3Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4Não os encobriremos aos seus filhos, mostrando à geração futura os louvores do Senhor, assim como a sua força e as maravilhas que fez.

4We will not hide {them} from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5Porque ele estabeleceu um testemunho em Jacó, e pôs uma lei em Israel, a qual deu aos nossos pais para que a fizessem conhecer a seus filhos;

5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

6Para que a geração vindoura a soubesse, os filhos que nascessem, os quais se levantassem e a contassem a seus filhos;

6That the generation to come might know {them, even} the children {which} should be born; {who} should arise and declare {them} to their children:

7Para que pusessem em Deus a sua esperança, e se não esquecessem das obras de Deus, mas guardassem os seus mandamentos.

7That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8E não fossem como seus pais, geração contumaz e rebelde, geração que não regeu o seu coração, e cujo espírito não foi fiel a Deus.

8And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation {that} set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. {that...: Heb. that prepared not their heart}

9Os filhos de Efraim, armados e trazendo arcos, viraram as costas no dia da peleja.

9The children of Ephraim, {being} armed, {and} carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. {carrying: Heb. throwing forth}

10Não guardaram a aliança de Deus, e recusaram andar na sua lei;

10They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

11E esqueceram-se das suas obras e das maravilhas que lhes fizera ver.

11And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

12Maravilhas que ele fez à vista de seus pais na terra do Egito, no campo de Zoã.

12Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, {in} the field of Zoan.

13Dividiu o mar, e os fez passar por ele; fez com que as águas parassem como num montão.

13He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

14De dia os guiou por uma nuvem, e toda a noite por uma luz de fogo.

14In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15Fendeu as penhas no deserto; e deu-lhes de beber como de grandes abismos.

15He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave {them} drink as {out of} the great depths.

16Fez sair fontes da rocha, e fez correr as águas como rios.

16He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17E ainda prosseguiram em pecar contra ele, provocando ao Altíssimo na solidão.

17And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

18E tentaram a Deus nos seus corações, pedindo carne para o seu apetite.

18And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

19E falaram contra Deus, e disseram: Acaso pode Deus prepararnos uma mesa no deserto?

19Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? {furnish: Heb. order}

20Eis que feriu a penha, e águas correram dela: rebentaram ribeiros em abundância. Poderá também dar-nos pão, ou preparar carne para o seu povo?

20Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

21Portanto o Senhor os ouviu, e se indignou; e acendeu um fogo contra Jacó, e furor também subiu contra Israel;

21Therefore the LORD heard {this}, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

22Porquanto não creram em Deus, nem confiaram na sua salvação;

22Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

23Ainda que mandara às altas nuvens, e abriu as portas dos céus,

23Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24E chovera sobre eles o maná para comerem, e lhes dera do trigo do céu.

24And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25O homem comeu o pão dos anjos; ele lhes mandou comida a fartar.

25Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. {Man...: or, Every one did eat the bread of the mighty}

26Fez soprar o vento do oriente nos céus, e o trouxe do sul com a sua força.

26He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. {to blow: Heb. to go}

27E choveu sobre eles carne como pó, e aves de asas como a areia do mar.

27He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: {feathered...: Heb. fowl of wing}

28E as fez cair no meio do seu arraial, ao redor de suas habitações.

28And he let {it} fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

29Então comeram e se fartaram bem; pois lhes cumpriu o seu desejo.

29So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

30Não refrearam o seu apetite. Ainda lhes estava a comida na boca,

30They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat {was} yet in their mouths,

31Quando a ira de Deus desceu sobre eles, e matou os mais robustos deles, e feriu os escolhidos de Israel.

31The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen {men} of Israel. {smote...: Heb. made to bow} {Chosen...: or, young men}

32Com tudo isto ainda pecaram, e não deram crédito às suas maravilhas.

32For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

33Por isso consumiu os seus dias na vaidade e os seus anos na angústia.

33Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34Quando os matava, então o procuravam; e voltavam, e de madrugada buscavam a Deus.

34When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35E se lembravam de que Deus era a sua rocha, e o Deus Altíssimo o seu Redentor.

35And they remembered that God {was} their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

36Todavia lisonjeavam-no com a boca, e com a língua lhe mentiam.

36Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

37Porque o seu coração não era reto para com ele, nem foram fiéis na sua aliança.

37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

38Ele, porém, que é misericordioso, perdoou a sua iniqüidade; e não os destruiu, antes muitas vezes desviou deles o seu furor, e não despertou toda a sua ira.

38But he, {being} full of compassion, forgave {their} iniquity, and destroyed {them} not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39Porque se lembrou de que eram de carne, vento que passa e não volta.

39For he remembered that they {were but} flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40Quantas vezes o provocaram no deserto, e o entristeceram na solidão!

40How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, {and} grieve him in the desert! {provoke: or, rebel against}

41Voltaram atrás, e tentaram a Deus, e limitaram o Santo de Israel.

41Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

42Não se lembraram da sua mão, nem do dia em que os livrou do adversário;

42They remembered not his hand, {nor} the day when he delivered them from the enemy. {from...: or, from affliction}

43Como operou os seus sinais no Egito, e as suas maravilhas no campo de Zoã;

43How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: {wrought: Heb. set}

44E converteu os seus rios em sangue, e as suas correntes, para que não pudessem beber.

44And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45Enviou entre eles enxames de moscas que os consumiram, e rãs que os destruíram.

45He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46Deu também ao pulgão a sua novidade, e o seu trabalho aos gafanhotos.

46He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

47Destruiu as suas vinhas com saraiva, e os seus sicômoros com pedrisco.

47He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost. {destroyed: Heb. killed} {frost: or, great hailstones}

48Também entregou o seu gado à saraiva, e os seus rebanhos aos coriscos.

48He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. {gave...: Heb. shut up} {hot...: or, lightnings}

49Lançou sobre eles o ardor da sua ira, furor, indignação, e angústia, mandando maus anjos contra eles.

49He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels {among them}.

50Preparou caminho à sua ira; não poupou as suas almas da morte, mas entregou à pestilência as suas vidas.

50He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; {He made...: Heb. He weighed a path} {life...: or, beasts to the murrain}

51E feriu a todo primogênito no Egito, primícias da sua força nas tendas de Cão.

51And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of {their} strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52Mas fez com que o seu povo saísse como ovelhas, e os guiou pelo deserto como um rebanho.

52But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53E os guiou com segurança, que não temeram; mas o mar cobriu os seus inimigos.

53And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. {overwhelmed: Heb. covered}

54E os trouxe até ao termo do seu santuário, até este monte que a sua destra adquiriu.

54And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, {even to} this mountain, {which} his right hand had purchased.

55E expulsou os gentios de diante deles, e lhes dividiu uma herança por linha, e fez habitar em suas tendas as tribos de Israel.

55He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56Contudo tentaram e provocaram o Deus Altíssimo, e não guardaram os seus testemunhos.

56Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57Mas retiraram-se para trás, e portaram-se infielmente como seus pais; viraram-se como um arco enganoso.

57But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58Pois o provocaram à ira com os seus altos, e moveram o seu zelo com as suas imagens de escultura.

58For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

59Deus ouviu isto e se indignou; e aborreceu a Israel sobremodo.

59When God heard {this}, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

60Por isso desamparou o tabernáculo em Siló, a tenda que estabeleceu entre os homens.

60So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent {which} he placed among men;

61E deu a sua força ao cativeiro, e a sua glória à mão do inimigo.

61And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

62E entregou o seu povo à espada, e se enfureceu contra a sua herança.

62He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

63O fogo consumiu os seus jovens, e as suas moças não foram dadas em casamento.

63The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage. {given...: Heb. praised}

64Os seus sacerdotes caíram à espada, e as suas viúvas não fizeram lamentação.

64Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

65Então o Senhor despertou, como quem acaba de dormir, como um valente que se alegra com o vinho.

65Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, {and} like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

66E feriu os seus adversários por detrás, e pô-los em perpétuo desprezo.

66And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

67Além disto, recusou o tabernáculo de José, e não elegeu a tribo de Efraim.

67Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

68Antes elegeu a tribo de Judá; o monte Sião, que ele amava.

68But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

69E edificou o seu santuário como altos palácios, como a terra, que fundou para sempre.

69And he built his sanctuary like high {palaces}, like the earth which he hath established for ever. {established: Heb. founded}

70Também elegeu a Davi seu servo, e o tirou dos apriscos das ovelhas;

70He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

71E o tirou do cuidado das que se acharam prenhes; para apascentar a Jacó, seu povo, e a Israel, sua herança.

71From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. {following: Heb. after}

72Assim os apascentou, segundo a integridade do seu coração, e os guiou pela perícia de suas mãos.

72So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
