Salmos 44

1Ó Deus, nós ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos, e nossos pais nos têm contado a obra que fizeste em seus dias, nos tempos da antiguidade.

1To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, {what} work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. {Maschil: or, of instruction}

2Como expulsaste os gentios com a tua mão e os plantaste a eles; como afligiste os povos e os derrubaste.

2{How} thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; {how} thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3Pois não conquistaram a terra pela sua espada, nem o seu braço os salvou, mas a tua destra e o teu braço, e a luz da tua face, porquanto te agradaste deles.

3For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

4Tu és o meu Rei, ó Deus; ordena salvações para Jacó.

4Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5Por ti venceremos os nossos inimigos; pelo teu nome pisaremos os que se levantam contra nós.

5Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6Pois eu não confiarei no meu arco, nem a minha espada me salvará.

6For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7Mas tu nos salvaste dos nossos inimigos, e confundiste os que nos odiavam.

7But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8Em Deus nos gloriamos todo o dia, e louvamos o teu nome eternamente. (Selá.)

8In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9Mas agora tu nos rejeitaste e nos confundiste, e não sais com os nossos exércitos.

9But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

10Tu nos fazes retirar do inimigo, e aqueles que nos odeiam nos saqueiam para si.

10Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

11Tu nos entregaste como ovelhas para comer, e nos espalhaste entre os gentios.

11Thou hast given us like sheep {appointed} for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen. {like...: Heb. as sheep of meat}

12Tu vendes por nada o teu povo, e não aumentas a tua riqueza com o seu preço.

12Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase {thy wealth} by their price. {for...: Heb. without riches}

13Tu nos pões por opróbrio aos nossos vizinhos, por escárnio e zombaria daqueles que estão à roda de nós.

13Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14Tu nos pões por provérbio entre os gentios, por movimento de cabeça entre os povos.

14Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

15A minha confusão está constantemente diante de mim, e a vergonha do meu rosto me cobre,

15My confusion {is} continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

16À voz daquele que afronta e blasfema, por causa do inimigo e do vingador.

16For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

17Tudo isto nos sobreveio; contudo não nos esquecemos de ti, nem nos houvemos falsamente contra a tua aliança.

17All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18O nosso coração não voltou atrás, nem os nossos passos se desviaram das tuas veredas;

18Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; {steps: or, goings}

19Ainda que nos quebrantaste num lugar de dragões, e nos cobriste com a sombra da morte.

19Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20Se nós esquecemos o nome do nosso Deus, e estendemos as nossas mãos para um deus estranho,

20If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21Porventura não esquadrinhará Deus isso? Pois ele sabe os segredos do coração.

21Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22Sim, por amor de ti, somos mortos todo o dia; somos reputados como ovelhas para o matadouro.

22Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23Desperta, por que dormes, Senhor? Acorda, não nos rejeites para sempre.

23Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast {us} not off for ever.

24Por que escondes a tua face, e te esqueces da nossa miséria e da nossa opressão?

24Wherefore hidest thou thy face, {and} forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25Pois a nossa alma está abatida até ao pó; o nosso ventre se apega à terra.

25For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

26Levanta-te em nosso auxílio, e resgata-nos por amor das tuas misericórdias.

26Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake. {for our...: Heb. a help for us}
