Salmos 39

1Eu disse: Guardarei os meus caminhos para não pecar com a minha língua; guardarei a boca com um freio, enquanto o ímpio estiver diante de mim.

1To the chief Musician, {even} to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.] I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. {my mouth...: Heb. a bridle, or, muzzle for my mouth}

2Com o silêncio fiquei mudo; calava-me mesmo acerca do bem, e a minha dor se agravou.

2I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, {even} from good; and my sorrow was stirred. {stirred: Heb. troubled}

3Esquentou-se-me o coração dentro de mim; enquanto eu meditava se acendeu um fogo; então falei com a minha língua:

3My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: {then} spake I with my tongue,

4Faze-me conhecer, Senhor, o meu fim, e a medida dos meus dias qual é, para que eu sinta quanto sou frágil.

4LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it {is; that} I may know how frail I {am}. {how...: or, what time I have here}

5Eis que fizeste os meus dias como a palmos; o tempo da minha vida é como nada diante de ti; na verdade, todo homem, por mais firme que esteja, é totalmente vaidade. (Selá.)

5Behold, thou hast made my days {as} an handbreadth; and mine age {is} as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state {is} altogether vanity. Selah. {at...: Heb. settled}

6Na verdade, todo homem anda numa và aparência; na verdade, em vão se inquietam; amontoam riquezas, e não sabem quem as levará.

6Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up {riches}, and knoweth not who shall gather them. {a vain...: Heb. an image}

7Agora, pois, Senhor, que espero eu? A minha esperança está em ti.

7And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope {is} in thee.

8Livra-me de todas as minhas transgressões; não me faças o opróbrio dos loucos.

8Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

9Emudeci; não abro a minha boca, porquanto tu o fizeste.

9I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst {it}.

10Tira de sobre mim a tua praga; estou desfalecido pelo golpe da tua mão.

10Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand. {blow: Heb. conflict}

11Quando castigas o homem, com repreensões por causa da iniqüidade, fazes com que a sua beleza se consuma como a traça; assim todo homem é vaidade. (Selá.)

11When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man {is} vanity. Selah. {his...: Heb. that which is to be desired in him to melt away}

12Ouve, Senhor, a minha oração, e inclina os teus ouvidos ao meu clamor; não te cales perante as minhas lágrimas, porque sou um estrangeiro contigo e peregrino, como todos os meus pais.

12Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I {am} a stranger with thee, {and} a sojourner, as all my fathers {were}.

13Poupa-me, até que tome alento, antes que me vá, e não seja mais.

13O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
