Quem é o Rico que se Salva? (Clemente) 4

1Conceda-nos, pois, o Salvador que, tendo começado por este ponto, ofereçamos aos irmãos o que é verdadeiro, conveniente e salutar: primeiro, quanto à própria esperança e, depois, quanto ao acesso a ela. Ele, de fato, concede aos que suplicam, ensina aos que perguntam, dissipa a ignorância e afasta o desespero, ao apresentar de novo as mesmas palavras acerca dos ricos, que se tornam suas próprias intérpretes e expositoras infalíveis.

1May the Saviour then grant to us that, having begun the subject from this point, we may contribute to the brethren what is true, and suitable, and saving, first touching the hope itself, and, second, touching the access to the hope. He indeed grants to those who beg, and teaches those who ask, and dissipate signorance and dispels despair, by introducing again the same words about the rich, which become their own interpreters and infallible expounders.

2Pois nada se compara a ouvir de novo as mesmas declarações que até agora vos afligiam nos Evangelhos, porque as ouvistes sem exame e as entendestes mal por imaturidade: 'Quando saía para o caminho, aproximou-se alguém e, ajoelhando-se, disse: Bom Mestre, que bem farei para herdar a vida eterna? Jesus lhe disse: Por que Me chamas bom? Ninguém é bom senão um só, Deus. Conheces os mandamentos.

2For there is nothing like listening again to the very same statements, which till now in the Gospels were distressing you, hearing them as you did without examination, and erroneously through puerility: "And going forth into the way, one approached and kneeled, saying, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may inherit everlasting life? And Jesus saith, Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments.

3Não adulterarás, não matarás, não furtarás, não darás falso testemunho, não defraudarás, honra teu pai e tua mãe. E ele respondeu: Tudo isso tenho observado. Jesus, olhando para ele, amou-o e disse: Uma coisa te falta. Se queres ser perfeito, vende o que tens e dá aos pobres, e terás um tesouro no céu; depois vem e segue-Me.

3Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he answering saith to Him, All these have I observed. And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and said, One thing thou lackest. If thou wouldest be perfect, sell what thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow Me.

4Ele entristeceu-se com essa palavra e retirou-se pesaroso, pois era rico e possuía muitos bens. Jesus olhou ao redor e disse aos discípulos: Quão dificilmente entrarão no reino de Deus os que possuem riquezas! Os discípulos ficaram espantados com Suas palavras. Jesus, porém, lhes respondeu de novo: Filhos, quão difícil é para os que confiam nas riquezas entrar no reino de Deus! Mais facilmente passará um camelo pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrará no reino de Deus. Eles ficaram ainda mais espantados e disseram: Quem, então, pode salvar-seã E Ele, olhando para eles, disse: O que é impossível aos homens é possível a Deus. Pois para Deus todas as coisas são possíveis. Pedro começou a dizer-Lhe: Eis que deixamos tudo e Te seguimos.

4And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he was rich, having great possessions. And Jesus looked round about, and saith to His disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! More easily shall a camel enter through the eye of a needle than a rich man into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, and said, Who then can be saved? bend He, looking upon them, said, What is impossible with men is possible with God. For with God all things are possible. Peter began to say to Him, Lo, we have left all and followed Thee.

5Jesus respondeu: Em verdade vos digo: quem deixar o que é seu, pais, irmãos e bens por Minha causa e pela do Evangelho receberá cem vezes mais, já neste mundo, terras, bens, casa e irmãos, com perseguições; e, no mundo vindouro, a vida eterna. Muitos dos primeiros serão os últimos, e os últimos serão os primeiros.'

5And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall leave what is his own, parents, and brethren, and possessions, for My sake and the Gospel's, shall receive an hundred-fold now in this world, lands, and possessions, and house, and brethren, with persecutions; and in the world to come is life everlasting. But many that are first shall be last, and the last first."
