1E depois destas coisas morreu o rei da cidade de Jerusalém, e levantou-se outro rei.

1And after these things the king of the city of Jerusalem died, and there arose another king.

2E todo o povo se reuniu com ele e lhe informou sobre nós, e disse: Há alguns do teu povo que mudaram de atitude em relação a nós.

2And all the people gathered to him and informed him concerning us, and said, There are certain of thy people, who have changed their way from us.

3Portanto o rei os convocou e perguntou-lhes por que haviam feito isso; e ele mandou nos chamar e perguntou: Quem sois vós, de que culto e de que país?

3Therefore the king summoned them, and asked them wherefore they had done this; and he sent for us and asked, Who are ye and of what worship and of what country?

4E nós lhe dissemos: Nós somos filhos de teu servo, e nosso pai é Recabe, filho de Jonadabe, e quando Jeremias, o profeta, pregou nos dias do rei teu pai, ele proclamou a morte à cidade de Jerusalém, dizendo: Ainda três dias e toda a cidade será morta.

4And we said to him, We are the sons of thy servant, and our father is Rechab the son of Jonadab, and when Jeremiah the prophet preached in the days of thy father the king, he proclaimed death to the city of Jerusalem, saying, Yet three days and all the city shall be put to death.

5E o rei teu pai, ouvindo isso, arrependeu-se de seus pecados e ordenou a todos que se desviassem de seu mau caminho.

5And the king thy father hearing this repented of his sins, and issued a command to all to turn aside from their wicked way.

6E nosso pai, teu servo, ouvindo isto, ordenou-nos, dizendo: Não bebas nenhum vaso de vinho, e não comas pão do fogo, até que o Senhor ouça a tua súplica.

6And our father thy servant hearing it charged us, saying, Drink no vessel of wine, and eat no bread from the fire, until the Lord shall hear your entreaty.

7E obedecemos ao mandamento de nosso pai e desnudamos nossos corpos, não bebemos vinho e não comemos pão, e oramos ao Senhor pela cidade de Jerusalém, e o Senhor teve pena de seu povo e afastou sua ira, e nós vimos isso e nossa alma se alegrou, e dissemos: É bom para nós sermos assim.

7And we hearkened to the commandment of our father, and made naked our bodies, we drank no wine and ate no bread, and we prayed to the Lord for the city of Jerusalem, and the Lord pitied his people and turned away his anger, and we saw it and our soul was rejoiced, and we said, It is good for us to be so.
