História dos Recabitas 7

1E eles se regozijaram com grande alegria e, pegando tábuas de pedra, escreveram nelas com os pregos, assim: Ouvi, filhos dos homens, ouvi-nos, os que nos tornamos abençoados, que nós também somos de vós; pois quando o profeta Jeremias proclamou que a cidade de Jerusalém seria entregue nas mãos dos destruidores, ele rasgou suas vestes e colocou saco sobre seus lombos, aspergiu pó sobre sua cabeça, colocou terra sobre sua cama e disse a todo o povo que se desviasse de seu mau caminho.

1And they rejoiced with great joy, and taking up tables of stone they wrote on them with their nails, thus, Hear, ye sons of men, hear ye us who are become blessed, that we also are of you; for when the prophet Jeremiah proclaimed that the city of Jerusalem should be delivered into the hands of the destroyers, he rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and sprinkled dust upon his head, and took earth upon his bed, and told all the people to turn from their wicked way.

2E nosso pai Recabe, filho de Aminadabe, ouviu-o e disse-nos: Vós, filhos e filhas de Recabe, ouvi vosso pai, e tirai as vestes do corpo, e não bebais nenhum vaso de vinho, e não comais pão do fogo, e não bebais bebida forte e mel até que o Senhor ouça a vossa súplica.

2And our father Rechab, the son of Aminadab, heard him and said to us, Ye sons and daughters of Rechab, hearken to your father, and put off your garments from your body, and drink no vessel of wine, and eat no bread from the fire, and drink not strong drink and honey until the Lord hear your entreaty.

3E dissemos: Tudo o que ele nos ordenou faremos e obedeceremos. Então, jogamos fora nossas roupas de nossos corpos, e não comemos pão do fogo, e não bebemos nenhum vaso de vinho, nem mel, nem bebida forte, e lamentamos com grande lamentação e suplicamos ao Senhor, e ele ouviu nossa oração e desviou sua ira da cidade de Jerusalém, e chegou à cidade de Jerusalém a misericórdia do Senhor, e ele teve pena de seu povo, e desviou sua ira mortal.

3And we said, All that he has commanded us we shall do and hearken. So we cast away our clothing from our bodies, and we ate no bread from the fire, and drank no vessel of wine nor honey nor strong drink, and we lamented with a great lamentation and besought the Lord, and he heard our prayer and turned away his anger from the city of Jerusalem, and there came to the city of Jerusalem mercy from the Lord, and he pitied its people, and turned away his deadly anger.
