1Ouçam, filhos dos homens, ouçam o modo de vida dos abençoados. Pois Deus nos colocou nesta terra, pois somos santos, mas não imortais.

1Hear, ye sons of men, hear the way of life of the blessed. For God placed us in this land, for we are holy but not immortal.

2Pois a terra produz frutos perfumados, e dos troncos das árvores sai água mais doce que o mel, e estes são o nosso alimento e bebida.

2For the earth produces most fragrant fruit, and out of the trunks of the trees comes water sweeter than honey, and these are our food and drink.

3Também oramos noite e dia, e esta é toda a nossa ocupação.

3We are also praying night and day, and this is all our occupation.

4Ouçam, filhos dos homens; conosco não há videira, nem campo arado, nem obras de madeira ou ferro, nem temos casa ou edifício, nem fogo, nem espada, nem ferro forjado ou bruto, nem prata, nem ouro, nem ar muito pesado ou muito afiado.

4Hear, ye sons of men; with us there is no vine, nor ploughed field, nor works of wood or iron, nor have we any house or building, nor fire nor sword, nor iron wrought or unwrought, nor silver nor gold, nor air too heavy or too keen.

5Nenhum de nós toma para si esposas, exceto durante o tempo que gera dois filhos, e depois de terem produzido dois filhos, eles se afastam um do outro e continuam na castidade, sem saber que alguma vez estiveram em relações sexuais, mas estando em virgindade desde o início.

5Neither do any of us take to themselves wives, except for so long as to beget two children, and after they have produced two children they withdraw from each other and continue in chastity, not knowing that they were ever in the intercourse of marriage, but being in virginity as from the beginning.

6E um filho permanece para o casamento e o outro para a virgindade.

6And the one child remains for marriage, and the other for virginity.
