História dos Recabitas 1

1Naquela época, havia no deserto um certo homem chamado Zózimo, que durante quarenta anos não comeu pão, não bebeu vinho e não viu a face do homem.

1About that time there was in the desert a certain man named Zosimus, who for forty years ate no bread, and drank no wine, and saw not the face of man.

2Este homem estava suplicando a Deus para que pudesse ver o modo de vida dos bem-aventurados, e eis que um anjo do Senhor foi enviado a ele, dizendo: Zózimo, homem de Deus, eis que fui enviado pelo Altíssimo, o Deus de todos, para te dizer que irás até os bem-aventurados, mas não habitarás com eles.

2This man was entreating God that he might see the way of life of the blessed, and behold an angel of the Lord was sent saying to him, Zosimus, man of God, behold I am sent by the Most High, the God of all, to tell thee that thou shalt journey to the blessed, but shalt not dwell with them.

3Mas não exaltes o teu coração, dizendo: Há quarenta anos que não como pão, porque a palavra de Deus é mais que o pão, e o espírito de Deus é mais que o vinho.

3But exalt not thy heart, saying, For forty years I have not eaten bread, for the word of God is more than bread, and the spirit of God is more than wine.

4E quanto à tua palavra: Não vi a face do homem, eis que a face do grande rei está perto de ti.

4And as for thy saying, I have not seen the face of man, behold the face of the great king is nigh thee.

5Zózimo disse: Eu sei que o Senhor pode fazer tudo o que quiser. O anjo lhe disse: Sabe também isto: que não és digno de nenhuma de suas delícias, mas levanta-te e parte.

5Zosimus said, I know that the Lord can do whatsoever he will. The angel said to him, Know this also, that thou art not worthy of one of their delights, but arise and set out.
