1Chapter.

2E aconteceu pela segunda vez que o povo pediu a José e Maria que Jesus deveria aprender Suas letras na escola.

2And it came to pass a second time, that Joseph and Mary were asked by the people that Jesus should be taught His letters in school.

3Eles não se recusaram a fazê-lo; e de acordo com o mandamento dos mais velhos, eles O levaram a um mestre para ser instruído no aprendizado humano.

3They did not refuse to do so; and according to the commandment of the elders, they took Him to a master to be instructed in human learning.

4Então o mestre começou a ensiná-Lo em tom imperioso, dizendo: Diga Alfa.

4Then the master began to teach Him in an imperious tone, saying: Say Alpha.

5E Jesus lhe disse: Diga-me primeiro o que é Betha, e eu te direi o que é Alpha.

5And Jesus said to him: Do thou tell me first what Betha is, and I will tell thee what Alpha is.

6E com isso o mestre irou-se e bateu em Jesus; e assim que ele o bateu, ele caiu morto.

6And upon this the master got angry and struck Jesus; and no sooner had he struck Him, than he fell down dead.

7E Jesus voltou para casa, para Sua mãe.

7And Jesus went home again to His mother.

8E José, com medo, chamou Maria e disse-lhe: Saiba com certeza que minha alma está triste até a morte por causa desta criança.

8And Joseph, being afraid, called Mary to him, and said to her: Know of a surety that my soul is sorrowful even unto death on account of this child.

9Pois é muito provável que em algum momento alguém o ataque com malícia e ele morra.

9For it is very likely that at some time or other some one will strike him in malice, and he will die.

10Mas Maria respondeu e disse: Ó homem de Deus! não acredito que isso seja possível.

10But Mary answered and said: O man of God! do not believe that this is possible.

11Você pode acreditar com certeza que Aquele que o enviou para nascer entre os homens o protegerá de todo mal e em Seu próprio nome o preservará do mal.

11You may believe to a certainty that He who has sent him to be born among men will Himself guard him from all mischief, and will in His own name preserve him from evil.
