1Chapter.

2Naqueles dias havia em Jerusalém um homem chamado Joaquim, da tribo de Judá.

2In those days there was a man in Jerusalem, Joachim by name, of the tribe of Judah.

3Ele era o pastor de suas próprias ovelhas, temendo ao Senhor com integridade e singeleza de coração.

3He was the shepherd of his own sheep, fearing the Lord in integrity and singleness of heart.

4Ele não tinha outro cuidado senão o de seus rebanhos, com os produtos dos quais abastecia todos os que temiam a Deus, oferecendo presentes duplos no temor de Deus a todos os que trabalhavam na doutrina e que O ministravam.

4He had no other care than that of his herds, from the produce of which he supplied with food all that feared God, offering double gifts in the fear of God to all who laboured in doctrine, and who ministered unto Him.

5Portanto, ele dividia os seus cordeiros, e as suas ovelhas, e a sua lã, e tudo o que possuía, em três porções: uma dava aos órfãos, às viúvas, aos estrangeiros e aos pobres; a segunda para aqueles que adoravam a Deus; e o terceiro ele guardou para si e para toda a sua casa.

5Therefore his lambs, and his sheep, and his wool, and all things whatsoever he possessed, he used to divide into three portions: one he gave to the orphans, the widows, the strangers, and the poor; the second to those that worshipped God; and the third he kept for himself and all his house.

6E ao fazer isso, o Senhor multiplicou-lhe os seus rebanhos, de modo que não havia ninguém como ele no povo de Israel.

6And as he did so, the Lord multiplied to him his herds, so that there was no man like him in the people of Israel.

7Ele começou a fazer isso agora quando tinha quinze anos.

7This now he began to do when he was fifteen years old.

8E aos vinte anos tomou por mulher Ana, filha de Acar, da sua tribo, isto é, da tribo de Judá, da família de David.

8And at the age of twenty he took to wife Anna, the daughter of Achar, of his own tribe, that is, of the tribe of Judah, of the family of David.

9E embora tivessem vivido juntos por vinte anos, ele não teve com ela filhos nem filhas.

9And though they had lived together for twenty years, he had by her neither sons nor daughters.
