1Chapter.

2E, passado o segundo ano, vieram magos do oriente a Jerusalém, trazendo grandes presentes.

2And when the second year was past, Magi came from the east to Jerusalem, bringing great gifts.

3E interrogaram rigorosamente os judeus, dizendo: Onde está o rei que vos nasceu? porque vimos a sua estrela no oriente e viemos adorá-lo.

3And they made strict inquiry of the Jews, saying: Where is the king who has been born to you? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him.

4E a notícia disso chegou ao rei Herodes, e o alarmou tanto que ele reuniu os escribas, os fariseus e os mestres do povo, perguntando-lhes onde os profetas haviam predito que Cristo deveria nascer.

4And word of this came to King Herod, and so alarmed him that he called together the scribes and the Pharisees, and the teachers of the people, asking of them where the prophets had foretold that Christ should be born.

5E eles disseram: Em Belém de Judá.

5And they said: In Bethlehem of Judah.

6Porque está escrito: E tu, Belém, terra de Judá, de modo algum és a menor entre os príncipes de Judá; porque de ti sairá um Líder que governará o meu povo Israel.

6For it is written: And thou Bethelehem, in the land of Judah, art by no means the least among the princes of Judah; for out of thee shall come forth a Leader who shall rule my people Israel.

7Então o rei Herodes convocou os magos e perguntou-lhes estritamente quando a estrela lhes apareceu.

7Then King Herod summoned the magi to him, and strictly inquired of them when the star appeared to them.

8Então, enviando-os a Belém, disse: Ide e indagai rigorosamente sobre a criança; e quando vocês o encontrarem, tragam-me notícias novamente, para que eu possa ir e adorá-lo também.

8Then, sending them to Bethlehem, he said: Go and make strict inquiry about the child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9E enquanto os magos seguiam seu caminho, apareceu-lhes a estrela, que era, por assim dizer, um guia para eles, indo adiante deles até chegarem onde estava a criança.

9And while the magi were going on their way, there appeared to them the star, which was, as it were, a guide to them, going before them until they came to where the child was.

10E quando os magos viram a estrela, regozijaram-se com grande alegria; e entrando em casa, viram o menino Jesus sentado no colo de sua mãe.

10And when the magi saw the star, they rejoiced with great joy; and going into the house, they saw the child Jesus sitting in His mother's lap.

11Então abriram seus tesouros e ofereceram grandes presentes aos bem-aventurados Maria e José.

11Then they opened their treasures, and presented great gifts to the blessed Mary and Joseph.

12E ao próprio menino ofereceram a cada um deles uma moeda de ouro.

12And to the child Himself they offered each of them a piece of gold.

13E da mesma forma um deu ouro, outro incenso e o terceiro mirra.

13And likewise one gave gold, another frankincense, and the third myrrh.

14E quando iam voltar para o rei Herodes, foram avisados ​​por um anjo durante o sono para não voltarem para Herodes; e eles voltaram para seu país por outro caminho.

14And when they were going to return to King Herod, they were warned by an angel in their sleep not to go back to Herod; and they returned to their own country by another road.
