Evangelho do Pseudo-Mateus 11

1Chapter.

2Enquanto essas coisas aconteciam, José estava ocupado com seu trabalho, a construção de casas, nos distritos à beira-mar; pois ele era carpinteiro.

2While these things were doing, Joseph was occupied with his work, house-building, in the districts by the sea-shore; for he was a carpenter.

3E depois de nove meses ele voltou para sua casa e encontrou Maria grávida.

3And after nine months he came back to his house, and found Mary pregnant.

4Portanto, estando em extrema angústia, ele estremeceu e clamou, dizendo: Ó Senhor Deus, recebe meu espírito; pois é melhor para mim morrer do que continuar a viver.

4Wherefore, being in the utmost distress, he trembled and cried out, saying: O Lord God, receive my spirit; for it is better for me to die than to live any longer.

5E as virgens que estavam com Maria disseram-lhe: José, o que dizes? Sabemos que nenhum homem tocou nela; podemos testemunhar que ela ainda é virgem e intocada.

5And the virgins who were with Mary said to him: Joseph, what art thou saying? We know that no man has touched her; we can testify that she is still a virgin, and untouched.

6Nós cuidamos dela; ela sempre continuou conosco em oração; diariamente os anjos de Deus falam com ela; diariamente ela recebe alimento da mão do Senhor.

6We have watched over her; always has she continued with us in prayer; daily do the angels of God speak with her; daily does she receive food from the hand of the Lord.

7Não sabemos como é possível que haja algum pecado nela.

7We know not how it is possible that there can be any sin in her.

8Mas se você deseja que lhe contemos o que suspeitamos, ninguém, exceto o anjo do Senhor, a engravidou.

8But if thou wishest us to tell thee what we suspect, nobody but the angel of the Lord has made her pregnant.

9Então disse José: Por que você me engana, fazendo-o acreditar que um anjo do Senhor a engravidou? Mas é possível que alguém tenha fingido ser um anjo do Senhor e a tenha enganado.

9Then said Joseph: Why do you mislead me, to believe that an angel of the Lord has made her pregnant? But it is possible that some one has pretended to be an angel of the Lord, and has beguiled her.

10E assim falando, chorou e disse: Com que rosto olharei para o templo do Senhor, ou com que rosto verei os sacerdotes de Deus? O que devo fazer? E dizendo assim, ele pensou que iria fugir e mandá-la embora.

10And thus speaking, he wept, and said: With what face shall I look at the temple of the Lord, or with what face shall I see the priests of God? What am I to do? And thus saying, he thought that he would flee, and send her away.
