Provérbios 9

1A sabedoria já edificou a sua casa, já lavrou as suas sete colunas.

1Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2Já abateu os seus animais e misturou o seu vinho, e já preparou a sua mesa.

2She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. {her beasts: Heb. her killing}

3Já ordenou às suas criadas, e está convidando desde as alturas da cidade, dizendo:

3She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

4Quem é simples, volte-se para cá. Aos faltos de senso diz:

4Whoso {is} simple, let him turn in hither: {as for} him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

5Vinde, comei do meu pão, e bebei do vinho que tenho misturado.

5Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine {which} I have mingled.

6Deixai os insensatos e vivei; e andai pelo caminho do entendimento.

6Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

7O que repreende o escarnecedor, toma afronta para si; e o que censura o ímpio recebe a sua mancha.

7He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked {man getteth} himself a blot.

8Não repreendas o escarnecedor, para que não te odeie; repreende o sábio, e ele te amará.

8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9Dá instrução ao sábio, e ele se fará mais sábio; ensina o justo e ele aumentará em entendimento.

9Give {instruction} to a wise {man}, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just {man}, and he will increase in learning.

10O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria, e o conhecimento do Santo a prudência.

10The fear of the LORD {is} the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy {is} understanding.

11Porque por meu intermédio se multiplicam os teus dias, e anos de vida se te aumentarão.

11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12Se fores sábio, para ti serás sábio; e, se fores escarnecedor, só tu o suportarás.

12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but {if} thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear {it}.

13A mulher louca é alvoroçadora; é simples e nada sabe.

13A foolish woman {is} clamorous: {she is} simple, and knoweth nothing.

14Assenta-se à porta da sua casa numa cadeira, nas alturas da cidade,

14For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15E põe-se a chamar aos que vão pelo caminho, e que passam reto pelas veredas, dizendo:

15To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16Quem é simples, volte-se para cá. E aos faltos de entendimento ela diz:

16Whoso {is} simple, let him turn in hither: and {as for} him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17As águas roubadas são doces, e o pão tomado às escondidas é agradável.

17Stolen waters are sweet, and bread {eaten} in secret is pleasant. {eaten...: Heb. of secrecies}

18Mas não sabem que ali estão os mortos; os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do inferno.

18But he knoweth not that the dead {are} there; {and that} her guests {are} in the depths of hell.
