Provérbios 18

1Busca satisfazer seu próprio desejo aquele que se isola; ele se insurge contra toda sabedoria.

1Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh {and} intermeddleth with all wisdom. {Through...: or, He that separateth himself seeketh according to his desire, and intermeddleth in every business}

2O tolo não tem prazer na sabedoria, mas só em que se manifeste aquilo que agrada o seu coração.

2A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3Vindo o ímpio, vem também o desprezo, e com a ignomínia a vergonha.

3When the wicked cometh, {then} cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4Águas profundas são as palavras da boca do homem, e ribeiro transbordante é a fonte da sabedoria.

4The words of a man's mouth {are as} deep waters, {and} the wellspring of wisdom {as} a flowing brook.

5Não é bom favorecer o ímpio, e com isso, fazer o justo perder a questão.

5{It is} not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

6Os lábios do tolo entram na contenda, e a sua boca brada por açoites.

6A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7A boca do tolo é a sua própria destruição, e os seus lábios um laço para a sua alma.

7A fool's mouth {is} his destruction, and his lips {are} the snare of his soul.

8As palavras do mexeriqueiro são como doces bocados; elas descem ao íntimo do ventre.

8The words of a talebearer {are} as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. {talebearer: or, whisperer} {as wounds: or, like as when men are wounded} {most...: Heb. chambers}

9O que é negligente na sua obra é também irmão do desperdiçador.

9He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10Torre forte é o nome do Senhor; a ela correrá o justo, e estará em alto refúgio.

10The name of the LORD {is} a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. {safe: Heb. set aloft}

11Os bens do rico são a sua cidade forte, e como uma muralha na sua imaginação.

11The rich man's wealth {is} his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12O coração do homem se exalta antes de ser abatido e diante da honra vai a humildade.

12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour {is} humility.

13O que responde antes de ouvir comete estultícia que é para vergonha sua.

13He that answereth a matter before he heareth {it}, it {is} folly and shame unto him. {answereth...: Heb. returneth a word}

14O espírito do homem susterá a sua enfermidade, mas ao espírito abatido, quem o suportará?

14The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15O coração do entendido adquire o conhecimento, e o ouvido dos sábios busca a sabedoria.

15The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16Com presentes o homem alarga o seu caminho e o eleva diante dos grandes.

16A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17O que pleiteia por algo, a princípio parece justo, porém vem o seu próximo e o examina.

17{He that is} first in his own cause {seemeth} just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18A sorte faz cessar os pleitos, e faz separação entre os poderosos.

18The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

19O irmão ofendido é mais difícil de conquistar do que uma cidade forte; e as contendas são como os ferrolhos de um palácio.

19A brother offended {is harder to be won} than a strong city: and {their} contentions {are} like the bars of a castle.

20Do fruto da boca de cada um se fartará o seu ventre; dos renovos dos seus lábios ficará satisfeito.

20A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; {and} with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do seu fruto.

21Death and life {are} in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22Aquele que encontra uma esposa, acha o bem, e alcança a benevolência do Senhor.

22{Whoso} findeth a wife findeth a good {thing}, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

23O pobre fala com rogos, mas o rico responde com dureza.

23The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

24O homem de muitos amigos deve mostrar-se amigável, mas há um amigo mais chegado do que um irmão.

24A man {that hath} friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend {that} sticketh closer than a brother.
