1É melhor um bocado seco, e com ele a tranqüilidade, do que a casa cheia de iguarias e com desavença.

1Better {is} a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices {with} strife. {sacrifices: or, good cheer}

2O servo prudente dominará sobre o filho que faz envergonhar; e repartirá a herança entre os irmãos.

2A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

3O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro; mas o Senhor é quem prova os corações.

3The fining pot {is} for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

4O ímpio atenta para o lábio iníquo, o mentiroso inclina os ouvidos à língua maligna.

4A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; {and} a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

5O que escarnece do pobre insulta ao seu Criador, o que se alegra da calamidade não ficará impune.

5Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: {and} he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. {unpunished: Heb. held innocent}

6A coroa dos velhos são os filhos dos filhos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.

6Children's children {are} the crown of old men; and the glory of children {are} their fathers.

7Não convém ao tolo a fala excelente; quanto menos ao príncipe, o lábio mentiroso.

7Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. {Excellent...: Heb. A lip of excellency} {lying...: Heb. a lip of lying}

8O presente é, aos olhos dos que o recebem, como pedra preciosa; para onde quer que se volte servirá de proveito.

8A gift {is as} a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. {a precious...: Heb. a stone of grace}

9Aquele que encobre a transgressão busca a amizade, mas o que revolve o assunto separa os maiores amigos.

9He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth {very} friends. {seeketh: or, procureth}

10A repreensão penetra mais profundamente no prudente do que cem açoites no tolo.

10A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool. {entereth...: or, aweth more a wise man, than to strike a fool an hundred times}

11Na verdade o rebelde não busca senão o mal; afinal, um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele.

11An evil {man} seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12Encontre-se o homem com a ursa roubada dos filhos, mas não com o louco na sua estultícia.

12Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

13Quanto àquele que paga o bem com o mal, não se apartará o mal da sua casa.

13Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14Como o soltar das águas é o início da contenda, assim, antes que sejas envolvido afasta-te da questão.

14The beginning of strife {is as} when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

15O que justifica o ímpio, e o que condena o justo, tanto um como o outro são abomináveis ao Senhor.

15He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both {are} abomination to the LORD.

16De que serviria o preço na mão do tolo para comprar sabedoria, visto que não tem entendimento?

16Wherefore {is there} a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing {he hath} no heart {to it}?

17Em todo o tempo ama o amigo e para a hora da angústia nasce o irmão.

17A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18O homem falto de entendimento compromete-se, ficando por fiador na presença do seu amigo.

18A man void of understanding striketh hands, {and} becometh surety in the presence of his friend. {understanding: Heb. heart}

19O que ama a transgressão ama a contenda; o que exalta a sua porta busca a ruína.

19He loveth transgression that loveth strife: {and} he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

20O perverso de coração jamais achará o bem; e o que tem a língua dobre vem a cair no mal.

20He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief. {He that hath a froward...: Heb. The froward of heart}

21O que gera um tolo para a sua tristeza o faz; e o pai do insensato não tem alegria.

21He that begetteth a fool {doeth it} to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

22O coração alegre é como o bom remédio, mas o espírito abatido seca até os ossos.

22A merry heart doeth good {like} a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. {like: or, to}

23O ímpio toma presentes em secreto para perverter as veredas da justiça.

23A wicked {man} taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

24No rosto do entendido se vê a sabedoria, mas os olhos do tolo vagam pelas extremidades da terra.

24Wisdom {is} before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool {are} in the ends of the earth.

25O filho insensato é tristeza para seu pai, e amargura para aquela que o deu à luz.

25A foolish son {is} a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

26Também não é bom punir o justo, nem tampouco ferir aos príncipes por eqüidade.

26Also to punish the just {is} not good, {nor} to strike princes for equity.

27O que possui o conhecimento guarda as suas palavras, e o homem de entendimento é de precioso espírito.

27He that hath knowledge spareth his words: {and} a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. {an...: or, a cool}

28Até o tolo, quando se cala, é reputado por sábio; e o que cerra os seus lábios é tido por entendido.

28Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: {and} he that shutteth his lips {is esteemed} a man of understanding.
