Provérbios 13

1O filho sábio atende à instrução do pai; mas o escarnecedor não ouve a repreensão.

1A wise son {heareth} his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2Do fruto da boca cada um comerá o bem, mas a alma dos prevaricadores comerá a violência.

2A man shall eat good by the fruit of {his} mouth: but the soul of the transgressors {shall eat} violence.

3O que guarda a sua boca conserva a sua alma, mas o que abre muito os seus lábios se destrói.

3He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: {but} he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4A alma do preguiçoso deseja, e coisa nenhuma alcança, mas a alma dos diligentes se farta.

4The soul of the sluggard desireth, and {hath} nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5O justo odeia a palavra de mentira, mas o ímpio faz vergonha e se confunde.

5A righteous {man} hateth lying: but a wicked {man} is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6A justiça guarda ao que é de caminho certo, mas a impiedade transtornará o pecador.

6Righteousness keepeth {him that is} upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. {the sinner: Heb. sin}

7Há alguns que se fazem de ricos, e não têm coisa nenhuma, e outros que se fazem de pobres e têm muitas riquezas.

7There is that maketh himself rich, yet {hath} nothing: {there is} that maketh himself poor, yet {hath} great riches.

8O resgate da vida de cada um são as suas riquezas, mas o pobre não ouve ameaças.

8The ransom of a man's life {are} his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9A luz dos justos alegra, mas a candeia dos ímpios se apagará.

9The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. {lamp: or, candle}

10Da soberba só provém a contenda, mas com os que se aconselham se acha a sabedoria.

10Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised {is} wisdom.

11A riqueza de procedência vã diminuirá, mas quem a ajunta com o próprio trabalho a aumentará.

11Wealth {gotten} by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. {by labour: Heb. with the hand}

12A esperança adiada desfalece o coração, mas o desejo atendido é árvore de vida.

12Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but {when} the desire cometh, {it is} a tree of life.

13O que despreza a palavra perecerá, mas o que teme o mandamento será galardoado.

13Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. {shall be rewarded: or, shall be in peace}

14A doutrina do sábio é uma fonte de vida para se desviar dos laços da morte.

14The law of the wise {is} a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15O bom entendimento favorece, mas o caminho dos prevaricadores é áspero.

15Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors {is} hard.

16Todo prudente procede com conhecimento, mas o insensato espraia a sua loucura.

16Every prudent {man} dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open {his} folly. {layeth...: Heb. spreadeth}

17O que prega a maldade cai no mal, mas o embaixador fiel é saúde.

17A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador {is} health. {a faithful...: Heb. an ambassador of faithfulness}

18Pobreza e afronta virão ao que rejeita a instrução, mas o que guarda a repreensão será honrado.

18Poverty and shame {shall be to} him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19O desejo que se alcança deleita a alma, mas apartar-se do mal é abominável para os insensatos.

19The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but {it is} abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20O que anda com os sábios ficará sábio, mas o companheiro dos tolos será destruído.

20He that walketh with wise {men} shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. {destroyed: Heb. broken}

21O mal perseguirá os pecadores, mas os justos serão galardoados com o bem.

21Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22O homem de bem deixa uma herança aos filhos de seus filhos, mas a riqueza do pecador é depositada para o justo.

22A good {man} leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner {is} laid up for the just.

23O pobre, do sulco da terra, tira mantimento em abundância; mas há os que se consomem por falta de juízo.

23Much food {is in} the tillage of the poor: but there is {that is} destroyed for want of judgment.

24O que não faz uso da vara odeia seu filho, mas o que o ama, desde cedo o castiga.

24He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25O justo come até ficar satisfeito, mas o ventre dos ímpios passará necessidade.

25The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
