Protoevangelho de Tiago 6

1Dia a dia a menina se ia robustecendo. Ao chegar aos seis meses, sua mãe deixou-a só no chão, para ver se se sustentava de pé, e ela, depois de andar sete passos, voltou ao regaço de sua mãe. Esta levantou-a, dizendo: 'Salve o Senhor! Não andarás mais por este solo, até que te leve ao templo do Senhor.' E lhe fez um oratório em sua casa e não consentiu que nenhuma coisa vulgar ou impura passasse por suas mãos.

1Day by day the girl grew stronger. When she was six months old, her mother set her alone on the ground, to see if she could stand, and she, after walking seven steps, returned to her mother's lap. She picked her up, saying: 'Save the Lord! You shall not walk again on this ground, until I take you to the temple of the Lord.' And she made an oratory for her in her house and did not allow anything common or impure to pass through her hands.

2Quando a menina completou um ano, Joaquim deu um grande banquete, para o qual convidou os sacerdotes, os escribas, o sinédrio e todo o povo de Israel. E apresentou a menina aos sacerdotes, que a abençoaram dizendo: 'Ó Deus de nossos pais, bendiz esta menina e dá-lhe um nome glorioso e eterno por todas as gerações.' Ao que todo o povo respondeu: 'Assim seja. Amém.'

2When the girl completed one year, Joachim gave a great banquet, to which he invited the priests, the scribes, the council and all the people of Israel. And he presented the girl to the priests, who blessed her saying: 'O God of our fathers, bless this girl and give her a glorious and eternal name throughout all generations.' To which all the people responded: 'So be it. Amen.'

3Sua mãe levou-a ao oratório de sua casa e deu-lhe o peito. Compôs, então, um hino ao Senhor Deus, dizendo: 'Entoar-ei um cântico ao Senhor, meu Deus, porque me visitaste, afastaste de mim o opróbrio de meus inimigos e me deste um fruto santo.'

3Her mother took her to the oratory of her house and gave her the breast. She then composed a hymn to the Lord God, saying: 'I will sing a canticle to the Lord, my God, because he visited me, removed from me the reproach of my enemies and gave me a holy fruit.'

4E tendo deixado a menina para que repousasse na câmara onde havia o oratório, saiu e pôs-se a servir os comensais.

4And having left the girl to rest in the chamber where the oratory was, she went out and began to serve the guests.
