Protoevangelho de Tiago 21

1E José dispôs-se a partir para a Judéia. Por essa ocasião sobreveio um grande tumulto em Belém, pois vieram uns magos dizendo: 'Aonde está o recém-nascido Rei dos Judeus, pois vimos sua estrela no Oriente e viemos para adorá-lo?'

1And Joseph prepared to depart for Judea. At that time a great tumult arose in Bethlehem, for some magi came saying: 'Where is the newborn King of the Jews, for we have seen his star in the East and have come to worship him?'

2Herodes, ao ouvir isto, perturbou-se, enviou seus emissários aos magos e convocou os príncipes e os sacerdotes fazendo-lhes esta pergunta: 'Que está escrito em relação ao Messias? Aonde ele vai nascer?' E eles responderam: 'Em Belém da Judéia, segundo rezam as escrituras.'

2Herod, upon hearing this, was troubled, sent his emissaries to the magi and summoned the princes and priests, putting this question to them: 'What is written regarding the Messiah? Where is he to be born?' And they answered: 'In Bethlehem of Judea, according to the scriptures.'

3Naquele instante aquela estrela, que haviam visto no Oriente, voltou novamente a guiá-los até que chegaram à caverna e pousou sobre a entrada dela. Vieram, então, os magos a ter com o Menino e sua Mãe, Maria, e tiraram oferendas de seus cofres: ouro, incenso e mirra.

3At that moment that star, which they had seen in the East, again began to guide them until they came to the cave and stopped over its entrance. Then the magi came to the Child and his Mother, Mary, and brought out offerings from their coffers: gold, frankincense and myrrh.

4Mas, avisados por um anjo para que não entrassem na Judéia, voltaram a suas terras por outro caminho.

4But, warned by an angel not to enter Judea, they returned to their lands by another route.
