Protoevangelho de Tiago 19

1E então uma mulher que descia da montanha me disse: 'Aonde vais?' Ao que respondi: 'Ando procurando uma parteira hebreia.' Ela replicou: 'E quem é a que está dando à luz na caverna?' 'É minha esposa', lhe disse eu.

1And then a woman who was coming down from the mountain said to me: 'Where are you going?' To which I answered: 'I am looking for a Hebrew midwife.' She replied: 'And who is it that is giving birth in the cave?' 'She is my wife,' I said to her.

2Ao chegar à gruta, pararam, e eis que esta estava sombreada por uma nuvem luminosa. E exclamou a parteira: 'Minha alma foi engrandecida, porque meus olhos viram coisas incríveis, pois que nasceu a salvação para Israel.'

2Upon arriving at the grotto, they stopped, and behold it was overshadowed by a luminous cloud. And the midwife exclaimed: 'My soul has been magnified, because my eyes have seen incredible things, for the salvation of Israel has been born.'

3De repente, a nuvem começou a sair da gruta, e dentro brilhou uma luz tão grande que nossos olhos não podiam resistir. Esta, por um momento, começou a diminuir tanto que deu para ver o menino que estava tomando o peito de sua mãe, Maria.

3Suddenly, the cloud began to withdraw from the grotto, and inside there shone a light so great that our eyes could not bear it. This, for a moment, began to diminish so much that we could see the child who was taking the breast of his mother, Mary.

4A parteira então deu um grito dizendo: 'Grande é para mim o dia de hoje, já que pude ver com meus próprios olhos um novo milagre.'

4The midwife then gave a cry saying: 'Great is this day for me, since I have been able to see with my own eyes a new miracle.'
