1E, encontrando uma caverna, levou-a para dentro e, havendo deixado os seus filhos com ela, foi buscar uma parteira hebreia na região de Belém.

1And, finding a cave, he took her inside and, having left his sons with her, he went to look for a Hebrew midwife in the region of Bethlehem.

2E eu, José, encontrei-me andando, mas não podia avançar; ao levantar meus olhos para o espaço, pareceu-me ver como se o ar estivesse estremecido de assombro; e quando fixei a vista no firmamento, o encontrei estático e os pássaros do céu imóveis.

2And I, Joseph, found myself walking, but could not advance; upon raising my eyes to the space, it seemed to me as if the air was stunned with amazement; and when I fixed my gaze on the firmament, I found it static and the birds of heaven motionless.

3Ao dirigir meu olhar à terra, vi um recipiente no solo e uns trabalhadores sentados em atitude de comer, com suas mãos na vasilha. Mas os que pareciam comer, na realidade não mastigavam. Em uma palavra, todas as coisas estavam afastadas, por uns instantes, de seu curso normal.

3Upon directing my gaze to the earth, I saw a vessel on the ground and some workers sitting in an attitude of eating, with their hands in the bowl. But those who seemed to be eating, in reality were not chewing. In a word, all things were removed, for some moments, from their normal course.
