1Capítulo 6 — Os deveres dos presbíteros e outros.

1Chapter 6 — The duties of presbyters and others.

2E que os presbíteros sejam compassivos e misericordiosos para com todos, trazendo de volta aqueles que vagam, visitando todos os enfermos, e não negligenciando a viúva, o órfão ou o pobre, mas sempre "providenciando aquilo que é apropriado aos olhos de Deus e do homem"; abster-se de toda ira, respeito pelas pessoas e julgamento injusto; mantendo-se afastado de toda cobiça, não creditando rapidamente uma má notícia contra ninguém, não severo no julgamento, sabendo que todos estamos sob uma dívida de pecado.

2And let the presbyters be compassionate and merciful to all, bringing back those that wander, visiting all the sick, and not neglecting the widow, the orphan, or the poor, but always "providing for that which is becoming in the sight of God and man;" abstaining from all wrath, respect of persons, and unjust judgment; keeping far off from all covetousness, not quickly crediting an evil report against any one, not severe in judgment, as knowing that we are all under a debt of sin.

3Se então imploramos ao Senhor que nos perdoe, nós também devemos perdoar; pois estamos diante dos olhos de nosso Senhor e Deus, e "todos devemos comparecer ao tribunal de Cristo, e cada um deve prestar contas de si mesmo".

3If then we entreat the Lord to forgive us, we ought also ourselves to forgive; for we are before the eyes of our Lord and God, and "we must all appear at the judgment-seat of Christ, and must every one give an account of himself".

4Vamos então servi-Lo com temor e com toda reverência, assim como Ele mesmo nos ordenou, e como os apóstolos que nos pregaram o Evangelho e os profetas que proclamaram de antemão a vinda do Senhor nos ensinaram.

4Let us then serve Him in fear, and with all reverence, even as He Himself has commanded us, and as the apostles who preached the Gospel unto us, and the prophets who proclaimed beforehand the coming of the Lord have alike taught us.

5Sejamos zelosos na busca daquilo que é bom, guardando-nos das causas de ofensa, dos falsos irmãos e daqueles que na hipocrisia levam o nome do Senhor e levam os homens vaidosos ao erro.

5Let us be zealous in the pursuit of that which is good, keeping ourselves from causes of offence, from false brethren, and from those who in hypocrisy bear the name of the Lord, and draw away vain men into error.
