Peshitta 3

1E, naqueles dias, apareceu João o Batista pregando no deserto da Judeia,

1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

2E dizendo: Arrependei-vos, porque é chegado o reino dos céus.

2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

3Porque este é o anunciado pelo profeta Isaías, que disse: Voz do que clama no deserto: Preparai o caminho do Senhor, Endireitai as suas veredas.

3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4E este João tinha as suas vestes de pelos de camelo, e um cinto de couro em torno de seus lombos; e alimentava-se de gafanhotos e de mel silvestre.

4And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5Então ia ter com ele Jerusalém, e toda a Judeia, e toda a província adjacente ao Jordão;

5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6E eram por ele batizados no rio Jordão, confessando os seus pecados.

6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
