Pastor de Hermas 62

1E ele disse-me: 'Vês este pastor?' 'Vejo, Senhor,' disse eu. 'Este,' disse ele, 'é o anjo da autocomplacência e do engano. Ele destrói as almas dos servos de Deus e as desvia da verdade, enganando-as com maus desejos, nos quais elas perecem.'

1And he said to me: 'Do you see this shepherd?' 'I see, Lord,' said I. 'This,' said he, 'is the angel of self-indulgence and deceit. He destroys the souls of the servants of God and turns them away from the truth, deceiving them with evil desires, in which they perish.'

2'Pois elas esquecem os mandamentos do Deus vivo, e caminham em deleites vãos e enganos, e são destruídas por este anjo, algumas para a morte e outras para a corrupção.'

2'For they forget the commandments of the living God, and walk in vain delights and deceits, and are destroyed by this angel, some to death and others to corruption.'

3Eu disse-lhe: 'Senhor, eu não entendo o que significa "para a morte" e o que significa "para a corrupção".'

3I said to him: 'Lord, I do not understand what "to death" means and what "to corruption" means.'

4'Ouça,' disse ele. 'As ovelhas que viste saltando e em deleite, estas são as que foram separadas de Deus e se entregaram aos desejos deste mundo. Nestas, portanto, não há arrependimento para a vida, porque elas acrescentaram à sua blasfêmia o nome do Senhor. Tais pessoas, portanto, estão destinadas à morte.'

4'Listen,' said he. 'The sheep you saw leaping and in delight, these are those who were separated from God and gave themselves to the desires of this world. In these, therefore, there is no repentance for life, because they added to their blasphemy the name of the Lord. Such persons, therefore, are destined to death.'

5'Mas as ovelhas que viste não saltando, mas apascentando-se em um só lugar, estas são as que se entregaram a deleites e enganos, mas não proferiram nenhuma blasfêmia contra o Senhor; estas, portanto, foram corrompidas da verdade. Nestas há esperança de arrependimento, no qual elas podem viver.'

5'But the sheep you saw not leaping, but feeding in one place, these are those who gave themselves to delights and deceits, but did not utter any blasphemy against the Lord; these, therefore, were corrupted from the truth. In these there is hope of repentance, in which they may live.'

6'A corrupção, portanto, tem esperança de uma certa renovação, mas a morte tem destruição eterna.'

6'Corruption, therefore, has hope of a certain renewal, but death has eternal destruction.'

7Novamente avançamos um pouco, e ele me mostrou um grande pastor, de aparência rude e cruel, vestido com uma pele de cabra branca, e uma espécie de bolsa sobre os ombros, e um cajado em sua mão, muito duro e tendo nós nele, e um chicote comprido. E seu olhar era carrancudo, de modo que tive medo dele, tal era o seu olhar.

7Again we advanced a little, and he showed me a great shepherd, of rude and cruel appearance, dressed in a white goat skin, and a kind of bag on his shoulders, and a staff in his hand, very hard and having knots in it, and a long whip. And his look was frowning, so that I was afraid of him, such was his look.
