Pastor de Hermas 60

1'Eu me alegro, Senhor,' disse eu, 'em ouvir esta explicação.' 'Ouça agora,' disse ele. 'Mantenha esta tua carne pura e incontaminada, para que o Espírito que nela habita possa dar testemunho dela, e a tua carne possa ser justificada.'

1'I rejoice, Lord,' said I, 'to hear this explanation.' 'Listen now,' said he. 'Keep this your flesh pure and undefiled, so that the Spirit who dwells in it may bear witness to it, and your flesh may be justified.'

2'Veja que não entre em teu coração que esta tua carne é corruptível, e que tu a abuses em qualquer mancha. Pois se tu manchares a tua carne, tu mancharás também o Espírito Santo; e se tu manchares a carne, não viverás.'

2'See that it does not enter your heart that this your flesh is corruptible, and that you abuse it in any stain. For if you stain your flesh, you will stain also the Holy Spirit; and if you stain the flesh, you will not live.'

3'Mas se,' disse eu, 'Senhor, houve alguma ignorância anterior, antes que estas palavras fossem ouvidas, como pode um homem que manchou sua carne ser salvo?'

3'But if,' said I, 'Lord, there was any previous ignorance, before these words were heard, how can a man who stained his flesh be saved?'

4'As transgressões anteriores da ignorância,' disse ele, 'Deus sozinho tem poder de curar; pois todo o poder é dEle.'

4'The previous transgressions of ignorance,' said he, 'God alone has power to heal; for all power is His.'

5'Mas agora guarde-te, e o Senhor, que é abundante em misericórdia, terá compaixão de ti em tuas transgressões anteriores de ignorância, se de agora em diante tu não mais manchares a tua carne nem o Espírito.'

5'But now keep yourself, and the Lord, who is abundant in mercy, will have compassion on you in your previous transgressions of ignorance, if from now on you no longer stain your flesh nor the Spirit.'

6'Pois ambos são comuns, e um não pode ser manchado sem o outro. Guarde, portanto, ambos puros, e viverás para Deus.'

6'For both are common, and one cannot be stained without the other. Keep, therefore, both pure, and you will live for God.'
