Pastor de Hermas 59

1Eu disse-lhe: 'Senhor, tudo é grande e maravilhoso e tudo é glorioso. Poderia eu, então,' disse eu, 'ter entendido estas coisas? Nem qualquer homem, por mais inteligente que seja, poderia tê-las compreendido.'

1I said to him: 'Lord, everything is great and wonderful and everything is glorious. Could I, then,' said I, 'have understood these things? Nor any man, however intelligent he might be, could have understood them.'

2'Diga-me ainda, Senhor,' disse eu, 'o que eu vou te perguntar.' 'Diga,' disse ele, 'se desejas alguma coisa.'

2'Tell me still, Lord,' said I, 'what I am going to ask you.' 'Say,' said he, 'if you desire anything.'

3'Por que, Senhor,' disse eu, 'o Filho de Deus é colocado na parábola na condição de um servo?'

3'Why, Lord,' said I, 'is the Son of God placed in the parable in the condition of a servant?'

4'Escuta,' disse ele. 'O Filho de Deus não é colocado na condição de um servo, mas é colocado em grande poder e senhorio.' 'Como, Senhor?' disse eu; 'não entendo.'

4'Listen,' said he. 'The Son of God is not placed in the condition of a servant, but is placed in great power and lordship.' 'How, Lord?' said I; 'I do not understand.'

5'Porque,' disse ele, 'Deus plantou a vinha, isto é, criou o povo, e o entregou ao Seu Filho. E o Filho designou os anjos sobre eles para guardá-los; e Ele mesmo limpou seus pecados, tendo sofrido muito e suportado muitos trabalhos. Pois ninguém pode limpar uma vinha sem trabalho ou fadiga.'

5'Because,' said he, 'God planted the vineyard, that is, created the people, and delivered it to His Son. And the Son appointed the angels over them to keep them; and He himself cleansed their sins, having suffered much and endured many labors. For no one can clean a vineyard without labor or fatigue.'

6'Tendo, portanto, Ele mesmo limpado os pecados do povo, Ele lhes mostrou os caminhos da vida, dando-lhes a lei que recebeu de Seu Pai.'

6'Having, therefore, He himself cleansed the sins of the people, He showed them the ways of life, giving them the law He received from His Father.'

7'Vês,' disse ele, 'que Ele mesmo é o Senhor do povo, tendo recebido todo o poder de Seu Pai? Ouça agora por que o pai tomou seu filho e os gloriosos anjos como conselheiros sobre a herança do servo.'

7'Do you see,' said he, 'that He himself is the Lord of the people, having received all power from His Father? Listen now why the father took his son and the glorious angels as counselors over the inheritance of the servant.'

8'O Espírito Santo, que preexiste e criou toda a criação, Deus o fez habitar na carne que Ele desejava. Esta carne, portanto, na qual o Espírito Santo habitou, serviu ao Espírito lindamente, caminhando em santidade e pureza, e não manchou o Espírito em nada.'

8'The Holy Spirit, who pre-exists and created all creation, God made him dwell in the flesh that He desired. This flesh, therefore, in which the Holy Spirit dwelt, served the Spirit beautifully, walking in holiness and purity, and did not stain the Spirit in anything.'

9'Como, então, ela tinha vivido lindamente e puramente, e tinha trabalhado com o Espírito, e tinha cooperado com ele em tudo, conduzindo-se com força e bravura, Ele a escolheu como parceira com o Espírito Santo; pois a conduta desta carne agradou a Deus, porque não foi manchada enquanto possuía o Espírito Santo na terra.'

9'Since, then, it had lived beautifully and purely, and had labored with the Spirit, and had cooperated with him in everything, conducting itself with strength and bravery, He chose it as a partner with the Holy Spirit; for the conduct of this flesh pleased God, because it was not stained while possessing the Holy Spirit on earth.'

10'Portanto, Ele tomou o filho e os gloriosos anjos como conselheiros, para que esta carne também, tendo servido ao Espírito sem culpa, pudesse ter algum lugar de habitação, e não parecesse ter perdido a recompensa de seu serviço. Pois toda carne que for encontrada sem mancha e pura, na qual o Espírito Santo tenha habitado, receberá uma recompensa.'

10'Therefore, He took the son and the glorious angels as counselors, so that this flesh also, having served the Spirit without blame, might have some place of dwelling, and might not seem to have lost the reward of its service. For all flesh that is found without stain and pure, in which the Holy Spirit has dwelt, shall receive a reward.'

11'Tu tens agora a interpretação desta parábola também.'

11'You have now the interpretation of this parable also.'
