Pastor de Hermas 57

1Eu lhe roguei seriamente que me explicasse o campo e o senhor do campo e o servo e a vinha e o filho e os amigos e os conselheiros; pois eu entendia que tudo isso era uma parábola.

1I begged him seriously to explain the field and the master of the field and the servant and the vineyard and the son and the friends and the counselors; for I understood that all this was a parable.

2Ele respondeu e disse-me: 'Tu és excessivamente persistente em tuas perguntas. Tu não deves perguntar nada; pois se fosse necessário que te fosse explicado, seria explicado.'

2He answered and said to me: 'You are exceedingly persistent in your questions. You must not ask anything; for if it were necessary for it to be explained to you, it would be explained.'

3Eu disse-lhe: 'Senhor, as coisas que me mostras e não me explicas, eu as vejo em vão e não entendo o que são. Da mesma forma, se me contas parábolas e não me dás a interpretação delas, eu as ouço em vão.'

3I said to him: 'Lord, the things you show me and do not explain to me, I see them in vain and do not understand what they are. Likewise, if you tell me parables and do not give me their interpretation, I hear them in vain.'

4Ele respondeu novamente e disse-me: 'Todo aquele que é servo de Deus e tem o seu Senhor no coração, pede entendimento a Ele e o recebe, e interpreta toda parábola, e as palavras do Senhor que são ditas em parábolas se tornam conhecidas a ele.'

4He answered again and said to me: 'Everyone who is a servant of God and has his Lord in his heart, asks understanding of Him and receives it, and interprets every parable, and the words of the Lord that are spoken in parables become known to him.'

5'Mas os que são hesitantes e lentos para orar, hesitam em pedir ao Senhor. Ora, o Senhor é abundante em misericórdia e dá a todos os que pedem a Ele sem cessar.'

5'But those who are hesitant and slow to pray, hesitate to ask the Lord. Now, the Lord is abundant in mercy and gives to all who ask of Him without ceasing.'

6'Mas tu, que foste fortalecido pelo santo anjo, e recebeste dele tal poder de oração, e não és lento, por que não pedes entendimento ao Senhor e o recebe de Ele?'

6'But you, who were strengthened by the holy angel, and received from him such power of prayer, and are not slow, why do you not ask understanding of the Lord and receive it from Him?'

7Eu disse-lhe: 'Senhor, tendo-te comigo, eu tenho necessidade de pedir a ti e de te interrogar; pois tu me mostras todas as coisas e falas comigo; mas se eu visse ou ouvisse estas coisas sem ti, eu perguntaria ao Senhor para que me fossem explicadas.'

7I said to him: 'Lord, having you with me, I have need to ask you and to interrogate you; for you show me all things and speak with me; but if I saw or heard these things without you, I would ask the Lord so that they might be explained to me.'
