Pastor de Hermas 56

1Eu disse: 'Senhor, eu não conheço estas parábolas, nem posso entendê-las, a menos que me as expliques.'

1I said: 'Lord, I do not know these parables, nor can I understand them, unless you explain them to me.'

2'Eu te explicarei tudo,' disse ele, 'e o que quer que eu fale contigo, eu te mostrarei. Guarde os mandamentos do Senhor e serás aceitável a Deus e serás inscrito no número daqueles que guardam Seus mandamentos.'

2'I will explain everything to you,' said he, 'and whatever I speak with you, I will show you. Keep the commandments of the Lord and you will be acceptable to God and will be written in the number of those who keep His commandments.'

3'Mas se fizeres qualquer coisa boa além do mandamento de Deus, ganharás para ti uma glória mais excelente e serás mais honrado diante de Deus do que serias. Se, portanto, enquanto guardas os mandamentos de Deus, tu acrescentares estes serviços também, te alegrarás, se os guardares de acordo com minha ordem.'

3'But if you do any good thing beyond the commandment of God, you will gain for yourself a more excellent glory and will be more honored before God than you would be. If, therefore, while keeping the commandments of God, you add these services also, you will rejoice, if you keep them according to my order.'

4Eu disse-lhe: 'Senhor, o que quer que me ordenares, eu o guardarei; pois sei que tu estás comigo.' 'Eu estarei contigo,' disse ele, 'porque tens tal zelo em fazer o bem; sim, e eu estarei com todos,' disse ele, 'que têm tal zelo.'

4I said to him: 'Lord, whatever you order me, I will keep it; for I know that you are with me.' 'I will be with you,' said he, 'because you have such zeal in doing good; yes, and I will be with all,' said he, 'who have such zeal.'

5'Este jejum,' disse ele, 'enquanto guardas os mandamentos do Senhor, é muito bom. Assim, o jejum que deves observar é este: primeiro, guarde-te de toda palavra má e de todo mau desejo, e limpe o teu coração de todas as vaidades deste mundo.'

5'This fast,' said he, 'while you keep the commandments of the Lord, is very good. Thus, the fast you must observe is this: first, keep yourself from every evil word and from every evil desire, and clean your heart from all vanities of this world.'

6'Se guardares estas coisas, este jejum será perfeito para ti. E assim farás: tendo cumprido o que está escrito, no dia em que jejuares, não provarás nada além de pão e água; e calculando o valor dos pratos que comerias naquele dia, darás o dinheiro a uma viúva, a um órfão ou a um necessitado, e assim te humilharás, para que aquele que recebeu de tua humilhação possa satisfazer sua alma e orar por ti ao Senhor.'

6'If you keep these things, this fast will be perfect for you. And so you shall do: having fulfilled what is written, on the day you fast, you shall taste nothing but bread and water; and calculating the value of the dishes you would eat on that day, you shall give the money to a widow, an orphan or a needy person, and thus you shall humble yourself, so that he who received from your humiliation may satisfy his soul and pray for you to the Lord.'

7'Se, portanto, cumprires o teu jejum assim como eu te ordenei, o teu sacrifício será aceitável diante de Deus, e este jejum será inscrito; e o serviço assim prestado é bom e alegre e aceitável ao Senhor.'

7'If, therefore, you fulfill your fast as I ordered you, your sacrifice will be acceptable before God, and this fast will be written; and the service thus rendered is good and joyful and acceptable to the Lord.'

8'Estas coisas observarás, tu e teus filhos e toda a tua casa; e observando-as, serás bem-aventurado; sim, e todos os que as ouvirem e observarem serão bem-aventurados, e o que quer que peçam ao Senhor, receberão.'

8'These things you shall observe, you and your children and all your house; and observing them, you shall be blessed; yes, and all who hear and observe them will be blessed, and whatever they ask of the Lord, they will receive.'
