Pastor de Hermas 54

1Enquanto eu estava jejuando e sentado em um certo monte, e dando graças ao Senhor por todas as coisas que Ele tinha feito comigo, vejo o pastor sentado ao meu lado e dizendo: 'Por que vieste aqui tão cedo pela manhã?' 'Porque, Senhor,' disse eu, 'eu tenho uma estação.'

1While I was fasting and sitting on a certain mountain, and giving thanks to the Lord for all the things He had done with me, I see the shepherd sitting beside me and saying: 'Why did you come here so early in the morning?' 'Because, Lord,' said I, 'I have a station.'

2'O que é uma estação?' ele perguntou. 'Eu estou jejuando, Senhor,' disse eu.

2'What is a station?' he asked. 'I am fasting, Lord,' said I.

3'E o que,' disse ele, 'é este jejum que estáis jejuando?' 'Como eu costumava fazer, Senhor,' disse eu, 'assim jejuo.'

3'And what,' said he, 'is this fast that you are fasting?' 'As I used to do, Lord,' said I, 'so I fast.'

4'Vós não sabeis,' disse ele, 'jejuar para o Senhor, nem é este jejum inútil que jejuais para Ele.'

4'You do not know,' said he, 'how to fast for the Lord, nor is this fast useless that you fast for Him.'

5'Por que, Senhor,' disse eu, 'dizes isso?' 'Eu te digo,' disse ele, 'que este não é o jejum que jejuas; mas eu te ensinarei o que é um jejum completo e aceitável ao Senhor. Ouça,' disse ele.

5'Why, Lord,' said I, 'do you say that?' 'I tell you,' said he, 'that this is not the fast you fast; but I will teach you what is a complete and acceptable fast to the Lord. Listen,' said he.

6'Deus não deseja tal jejum inútil; pois jejuando assim para Deus, nada farás para a justiça.'

6'God does not desire such a useless fast; for fasting thus for God, you will do nothing for righteousness.'

7'Mas jejue para Deus um jejum deste tipo: não faça maldade em tua vida, e sirva ao Senhor com um coração puro; guarde Seus mandamentos e caminhe em Seus preceitos, e não deixe nenhuma má concupiscência subir em teu coração.'

7'But fast for God a fast of this kind: do no evil in your life, and serve the Lord with a pure heart; keep His commandments and walk in His precepts, and let no evil lust rise in your heart.'

8'Mas creia em Deus, para que, se fizeres estas coisas e O temeres, e te abstiveres de toda obra má, vivas para Deus; e se fizeres estas coisas, realizarás um grande jejum e aceitável a Deus.'

8'But believe in God, so that if you do these things and fear Him, and abstain from every evil work, you live for God; and if you do these things, you will distinguish a great fast and acceptable to God.'
