1Tomando ensejo em Papias de Hierápolis, o ilustre varão que ouviu o apóstolo que se reclinara no seio de Cristo, bem como em Clemente, em Panteno, sacerdote da igreja de Alexandria, e no sábio Amônio, os antigos e primeiros expositores, que concordavam mutuamente entre si, interpretavam a obra dos seis dias da criação como referindo-se espiritualmente a Cristo e a toda a Igreja.

1Taking occasion from Papias of Hierapolis, the illustrious, a hearer of the apostle who leaned on the bosom of Christ, and Clement, and Pantaenus the priest of the church of Alexandria, and the wise Ammonius, the ancient and first expositors, who agreed with each other, understood the work of the six days of creation as referring spiritually to Christ and the whole Church.
