Fragmentos de Papias e Quadrato 4

1Virão dias em que crescerão videiras que terão cada uma dez mil ramos, e em cada ramo dez mil galhos, e em cada galho verdadeiro dez mil rebentos, e em cada um dos rebentos dez mil cachos, e em cada um dos cachos dez mil uvas, e cada uva, ao ser espremida, dará vinte e cinco metretas de vinho. E quando algum dos santos lançar mão de um cacho, outro clamará: Eu sou um cacho melhor, toma-me a mim; bendize ao Senhor por meu intermédio.

1The days will come in which vines shall grow, having each ten thousand branches, and in each branch ten thousand twigs, and in each true twig ten thousand shoots, and in every one of the shoots ten thousand clusters, and on every one of the clusters ten thousand grapes, and every grape when pressed will give five-and-twenty metretes of wine. And when any one of the saints shall lay hold of a cluster, another shall cry out, I am a better cluster, take me; bless the Lord through me.

2Do mesmo modo, que um grão de trigo produzirá dez mil espigas, e que cada espiga terá dez mil grãos, e cada grão renderá dez libras de farinha alva, pura e fina; e que maçãs, sementes e ervas produzirão em proporções semelhantes; e que todos os animais, alimentando-se então unicamente dos produtos da terra, se tornarão pacíficos e harmoniosos, sujeitos em perfeita obediência ao homem. Estas coisas são críveis para os fiéis. E quando Judas, o traidor, não creu e perguntou: Como, pois, tais crescimentos serão operados pelo Senhor? o Senhor respondeu: Hão de vê-lo aqueles que chegarem a esses tempos.

2In like manner, that a grain of wheat would produce ten thousand ears, and that every ear would have ten thousand grains, and every grain would yield ten pounds of clear, pure, fine flour; and that apples, and seeds, and grass would produce in similar proportions; and that all animals, feeding then only on the productions of the earth, would become peaceable and harmonious, and be in perfect subjection to man. These things are credible to believers. And when Judas the traitor did not believe, and asked, How then shall such growths be accomplished by the Lord? the Lord said, They shall see who shall come to these times.
