1Ora, enquanto eu muito suplicava, Deus conteve

1Now while I much entreated God restrained

2O meu cântico sábio, e também em meu peito novamente

3Pôs a voz suave de palavras divinas.

3He put the charming voice of words divine.

4Aterrorizada em todo o meu corpo, a estas

4In my whole body terror-stricken these

5Eu sigo; pois não sei o que falo,

5I follow; for I know not that I speak,

6Mas Deus me impele a proclamar cada coisa.

6But God impels me to proclaim each thing.

7Mas quando sobre a terra vierem abalos, raios ferozes,

7But when on earth come shocks, fierce thunderbolts,

8Trovões e relâmpagos, tempestades e praga maligna,

8Thunders and lightnings, storms, and evil blight,

9E o furor de chacais e de lobos, mortandade de homens,

9And rage of jackals and of wolves, manslaughter,

10Destruição da humanidade e de vacas que mugem,

10Destruction of men and of lowing kine,

11Gado quadrúpede e mulas laboriosas,

11Four-footed cattle and laborious mules,

12E cabras e ovelhas, então o vasto campo

12And goats and sheep, then shall the ample field

13Ficará estéril por abandono, e os frutos faltarão,

13Be barren from neglect, and fruits shall fail,

14E haverá a venda da própria liberdade

14And there shall be a selling of their freedom

15Entre a maioria dos homens, e pilhagem de templos.

15Among most men, and robbery of temples.

16E então surgirá, depois destas coisas, dos homens

16And then shall, after these, appear of men

17A décima raça, quando o Relampejador que abala a terra

17The tenth race, when the earth-shaking Lightener

18Quebrar o zelo pelos ídolos e estremecer

18Shall break the zeal for idols and shall shake

19O povo de Roma das sete colinas, e grandes riquezas

19The people of seven-hilled Rome, and riches great

20Perecerão, consumidas pela chama ardente de Vulcano.

20Shall perish, burned by Vulcan's fiery flame.

21E então sinais sanguinolentos do céu hão de descer —

21And then shall bloody signs from heaven descend--

22Mas ainda o mundo inteiro de inumeráveis homens

22But yet the whole world of unnumbered men

23Embravecido há de matar uns aos outros, e em tumulto

23Enraged shall kill each other, and in tumult

24Enviará Deus fomes, pestes e raios

24Shall God send famines, plagues, and thunderbolts

25Sobre os homens que, sem retidão, julgam o direito.

25On men who, without justice, judge of rights.

26E haverá escassez de homens em todo o mundo,

26And lack of men shall be in all the world,

27De modo que, se alguém avistasse um vestígio

27So that if anyone beheld a trace

28De ser humano sobre a terra, ficaria maravilhado.

28Of man on earth, he would be wonderstruck.

29E então o grande Deus que habita nos céus

29And then shall the great God who dwells in heaven

30Se manifestará em todas as coisas Salvador dos piedosos.

30Saviour of pious men in all things prove.

31E então haverá paz e profunda sabedoria,

31And then shall there be peace and wisdom deep,

32E a terra frutífera produzirá de novo

32And the fruit-bearing land shall yield again

33Frutos abundantes, não divididos em parcelas

33Abundant fruits, divided not in parts

34Nem tampouco escravizados. E todo porto então,

34Nor yet enslaved. And every harbor then,

35E todo ancoradouro, será livre aos homens

35And every haven, shall be free to men

36Como dantes, e a desfaçatez perecerá.

36As formerly, and shamelessness shall perish.

37E então Deus mostrará aos mortais um grande sinal:

37And then will God show mortals a great sign:

38Pois como uma coroa resplandecente brilhará uma estrela,

38For like a lustrous crown shall shine a star,

39Luminosa, toda resplendente, desde o céu fulgente

39Bright, all-resplendent, from the radiant heaven

40Por muitos dias; e então Ele ostentará

40Days not a few; and then will he display

41Do céu uma coroa de peleja aos homens

41From heaven a crown for contest unto men

42Que combatem. E então haverá novamente

42Who wrestle. And then there shall be again

43Uma grande contenda de cortejo triunfal

43A mighty contest of triumphal march

44Rumo ao firmamento celestial, e será

44Into the heavenly sky, and it shall be

45Para todos os homens do mundo, e terá a glória

45For all men in the world, and have the fame

46Da imortalidade. E todos os povos

46Of immortality. And every people

47Então lutarão nos combates imortais

47Shall then in the immortal contests strive

48Pela esplêndida vitória. Pois ninguém ali

48For splendid victory. For no one there

49Poderá comprar desavergonhadamente uma coroa com prata.

49Can shamelessly with silver buy a crown.

50Pois a eles o puro Cristo adjudicará

50For unto them will the pure Christ adjudge

51Aquilo que é devido, e coroará os aprovados,

51That which is due, and crown the ones approved,

52E dará aos seus mártires um prêmio imortal,

52And give his martyrs an immortal prize

53Aos que sustentam a luta até a morte.

53Who carry on the contest unto death.

54E aos homens castos que correm bem a sua carreira

54And unto chaste men who run their race well

55Ele a recompensa incorruptível

55Will he the incorruptible reward

56Do prêmio conferirá, e a todos os homens distribuirá

56Of the prize give, and to all men allot

57O que lhes cabe, e também às nações estranhas

57That which is due, and also to strange nations

58Que vivem em santidade e conhecem a um só Deus.

58That live a holy life and know one God.

59E àqueles que guardam o matrimônio

59And those who have regard for marriages

60E se mantêm longe dos adultérios,

60And keep themselves far from adulteries,

61A eles dons ricos e esperança eterna Ele dará.

61To them rich gifts, eternal hope, he'll give.

62Pois toda alma humana é dádiva gratuita de Deus,

62For every human soul is God's free gift,

63E não é justo que os homens a manchem com obras vis.

63And 'tis not right men stain it with vile deeds.

64Não enriqueças injustamente, mas leva

64[Do not be rich unrighteously, but lead

65Uma vida de probidade. Contenta-te

65A life of probity. Be satisfied

66Com o que tens e guarda-te daquilo

66With what thou hast and keep thyself from that

67Que pertence a outrem. Não fales falsidade,

67Which is another's. Speak not what is false,

68Mas cuida de todas as coisas que são verdadeiras.

69Não reverencies ídolos em vão; mas a Deus

69Revere not idols vainly; but the God

70Incorruptível honra sempre em primeiro lugar,

70Imperishable honor always first,

71E depois a teus pais. Paga a todos o que lhes é devido,

71And next thy parents. Render all things due,

72E não entres em juízo injusto.

72And into unjust judgment come thou not.

73Não rejeites o pobre sem justiça,

73Do not cast out the poor unrighteously,

74Nem julgues pela aparência exterior; se perversamente

74Nor judge by outward show; if wickedly

75Julgares, Deus mais tarde julgará a ti.

75Thou judgest, God hereafter will judge thee.

76Evita o falso testemunho; dize a verdade.

78O amor entre todos. Pratica medidas justas;

79For beautiful is measure full to all.

80Não inclines a balança para um só lado, mas nivela-a por igual.

80Strike not the scales oneside, but draw them equal.

81Não perjures nem por ignorância nem de própria vontade;

81Forswear not ignorantly nor willingly;

82Deus aborrece o perjuro pelo que jurou.

82God hates the perjured man in that he swore.

83Dádiva que proceda de obras injustas

83A gift proceeding out of unjust deeds

84Nunca recebas em mão. Não furtes a semente;

84Never receive in hand. Do not steal seed;

85Maldito por muitas gerações seja aquele

85Accursed through many generations he

86Que a tomou contra a propagação da vida.

87Não te entregues a torpes concupiscências, não calunies, nem mates.

87Indulge not vile lusts, slander not, nor kill.

88Dá ao trabalhador a sua diária; não aflijas

88Give the toilworn his hire; do not afflict

89O homem pobre. Aos órfãos concede socorro,

89The poor man. Unto orphans help afford

90E às viúvas e aos necessitados. Fala com discernimento;

90And to widows and the needy. Talk with sense;

91Guarda bem no coração o segredo. Não queiras

91Hold fast in heart a secret. Be unwilling

92Agir injustamente nem tolerar

92To act unjustly nor yet tolerate

93Homens iníquos. Dá ao pobre de imediato,

93Unrighteous men. Give to the poor at once

94E não digas: "Vem amanhã". Do teu cereal

94And say not, "Come to-morrow." Of thy grain

95Dá ao necessitado com mão suada de trabalho.

95Give to the needy with perspiring hand.

96Quem dá esmola sabe emprestar a Deus.

97A misericórdia resgata da morte quando vier o juízo.

99Antes do que sacrifício. Veste o nu,

171And when it is excessive it is wrath.

172O zelo dos homens bons é coisa nobre,

172The zeal of good men is a noble thing,

173But of the base is base. Of wicked men

174A ousadia é perniciosa, porém a boa fama

174The boldness is destructive, but renown

227E todos eles vigiam a todo tempo e esperam

227And they all watch at all times and expect

243Pois uma densa névoa há de cobrir o mundo infindo,

243For a dark mist shall hide the boundless world,

244O oriente, o ocidente, o sul e o norte. E então fluirá

244East, west, and south, and north. And then shall flow

245Uma caudalosa torrente de fogo abrasador dos céus

245A mighty stream of burning fire from heaven
