Sobre a Oração (Tertuliano) 10

1Visto, porém, que o Senhor, conhecedor antecipado das necessidades humanas, disse separadamente, depois de transmitir sua Regra de Oração: Pedi, e recebereis; e visto que há petições feitas segundo as circunstâncias de cada pessoa, nossas necessidades adicionais têm o direito, após começarmos pelas orações legítimas e habituais como fundamento, por assim dizer, de erguer uma construção suplementar de petições, mas sempre com a lembrança dos preceitos do Mestre.

1Since, however, the Lord, the Foreseer of human necessities, said separately, after delivering His Rule of Prayer, "Ask, and ye shall receive;" and since there are petitions which are made according to the circumstances of each individual; our additional wants have the right--after beginning with the legitimate and customary prayers as a foundation, as it were--of rearing an outer superstructure of petitions, yet with remembrance of the Master's precepts.
