Números 20

1Chegando os filhos de Israel, toda a congregação, ao deserto de Zim, no mês primeiro, o povo ficou em Cades; e Miriã morreu ali, e ali foi sepultada.

1Then came the children of Israel, {even} the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2E não havia água para a congregação; então se reuniram contra Moisés e contra Arão.

2And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3E o povo contendeu com Moisés, dizendo: Quem dera tivéssemos perecido quando pereceram nossos irmãos perante o Senhor!

3And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

4E por que trouxestes a congregação do Senhor a este deserto, para que morramos aqui, nós e os nossos animais?

4And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

5E por que nos fizestes subir do Egito, para nos trazer a este lugar mau? lugar onde não há semente, nem de figos, nem de vides, nem de romãs, nem tem água para beber.

5And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it {is} no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither {is} there any water to drink.

6Então Moisés e Arão se foram de diante do povo à porta da tenda da congregação, e se lançaram sobre os seus rostos; e a glória do Senhor lhes apareceu.

6And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

7E o Senhor falou a Moisés dizendo:

7And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

8Toma a vara, e ajunta a congregação, tu e Arão, teu irmão, e falai à rocha, perante os seus olhos, e dará a sua água; assim lhes tirarás água da rocha, e darás a beber à congregação e aos seus animais.

8Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9Então Moisés tomou a vara de diante do Senhor, como lhe tinha ordenado.

9And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10E Moisés e Arão reuniram a congregação diante da rocha, e Moisés disse-lhes: Ouvi agora, rebeldes, porventura tiraremos água desta rocha para vós?

10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11Então Moisés levantou a sua mão, e feriu a rocha duas vezes com a sua vara, e saiu muita água; e bebeu a congregação e os seus animais.

11And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts {also}.

12E o Senhor disse a Moisés e a Arão: Porquanto não crestes em mim, para me santificardes diante dos filhos de Israel, por isso não introduzireis esta congregação na terra que lhes tenho dado.

12And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13Estas são as águas de Meribá, porque os filhos de Israel contenderam com o Senhor; e se santificou neles.

13This {is} the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them. {Meribah: that is, Strife}

14Depois Moisés, de Cades, mandou mensageiros ao rei de Edom, dizendo: Assim diz teu irmão Israel: Sabes todo o trabalho que nos sobreveio,

14And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us: {befallen...: Heb. found us}

15Como nossos pais desceram ao Egito, e nós no Egito habitamos muitos dias; e como os egípcios nos maltrataram, a nós e a nossos pais;

15How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:

16E clamamos ao Senhor, e ele ouviu a nossa voz, e mandou um anjo, e nos tirou do Egito; e eis que estamos em Cades, cidade na extremidade dos teus termos.

16And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we {are} in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:

17Deixa-nos, pois, passar pela tua terra; não passaremos pelo campo, nem pelas vinhas, nem beberemos a água dos poços; iremos pela estrada real; não nos desviaremos para a direita nem para a esquerda, até que passemos pelos teus termos.

17Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink {of} the water of the wells: we will go by the king's {high} way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

18Porém Edom lhe disse: Não passarás por mim, para que eu não saia com a espada ao teu encontro.

18And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.

19Então os filhos de Israel lhe disseram: Subiremos pelo caminho aplanado, e se eu e o meu gado bebermos das tuas águas, darei o preço delas; não desejo alguma outra coisa, senão passar a pé.

19And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without {doing} any thing {else}, go through on my feet.

20Porém ele disse: Não passarás. E saiu-lhe Edom ao encontro com muita gente, e com mão forte.

20And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

21Assim recusou Edom deixar passar a Israel pelo seu termo; por isso Israel se desviou dele.

21Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

22Então partiram de Cades; e os filhos de Israel, toda a congregação, chegaram ao monte Hor.

22And the children of Israel, {even} the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.

23E falou o Senhor a Moisés e a Arão no monte Hor, nos termos da terra de Edom, dizendo:

23And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,

24Arão será recolhido a seu povo, porque não entrará na terra que tenho dado aos filhos de Israel, porquanto rebeldes fostes à minha ordem, nas águas de Meribá.

24Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah. {word: Heb. mouth}

25Toma a Arão e a Eleazar, seu filho, e faze-os subir ao monte Hor.

25Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:

26E despe a Arão as suas vestes, e veste-as em Eleazar, seu filho, porque Arão será recolhido, e morrerá ali.

26And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered {unto his people}, and shall die there.

27Fez, pois, Moisés como o Senhor lhe ordenara; e subiram ao monte Hor perante os olhos de toda a congregação.

27And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28E Moisés despiu a Arão de suas vestes, e as vestiu em Eleazar, seu filho; e morreu Arão ali sobre o cume do monte; e desceram Moisés e Eleazar do monte.

28And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

29Vendo, pois, toda a congregação que Arão era morto, choraram a Arão trinta dias, toda a casa de Israel.

29And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, {even} all the house of Israel.
