Números 14

1Então toda a congregação levantou a sua voz; e o povo chorou naquela noite.

1And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

2E todos os filhos de Israel murmuraram contra Moisés e contra Arão; e toda a congregação lhes disse: Quem dera tivéssemos morrido na terra do Egito! ou, mesmo neste deserto!

2And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

3E por que o Senhor nos traz a esta terra, para cairmos à espada, e para que nossas mulheres e nossas crianças sejam por presa? Não nos seria melhor voltarmos ao Egito?

3And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

4E diziam uns aos outros: Constituamos um líder, e voltemos ao Egito.

4And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

5Então Moisés e Arão caíram sobre os seus rostos perante toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel.

5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

6E Josué, filho de Num, e Calebe filho de Jefoné, dos que espiaram a terra, rasgaram as suas vestes.

6And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, {which were} of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

7E falaram a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel, dizendo: A terra pela qual passamos a espiar é terra muito boa.

7And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, {is} an exceeding good land.

8Se o Senhor se agradar de nós, então nos porá nesta terra, e no-la dará; terra que mana leite e mel.

8If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

9Tão-somente não sejais rebeldes contra o Senhor, e não temais o povo dessa terra, porquanto são eles nosso pão; retirou-se deles o seu amparo, e o Senhor é conosco; não os temais.

9Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they {are} bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD {is} with us: fear them not. {defence: Heb. shadow}

10Mas toda a congregação disse que os apedrejassem; porém a glória do Senhor apareceu na tenda da congregação a todos os filhos de Israel.

10But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

11E disse o Senhor a Moisés: Até quando me provocará este povo? e até quando não crerá em mim, apesar de todos os sinais que fiz no meio dele?

11And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

12Com pestilência o ferirei, e o rejeitarei; e te farei a ti povo maior e mais forte do que este.

12I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

13E disse Moisés ao Senhor: Assim os egípcios o ouvirão; porquanto com a tua força fizeste subir este povo do meio deles.

13And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear {it}, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

14E dirão aos moradores desta terra, os quais ouviram que tu, ó Senhor, estás no meio deste povo, que face a face, ó Senhor, lhes apareces, que tua nuvem está sobre ele e que vais adiante dele numa coluna de nuvem de dia, e numa coluna de fogo de noite.

14And they will tell {it} to the inhabitants of this land: {for} they have heard that thou LORD {art} among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and {that} thy cloud standeth over them, and {that} thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

15E se matares este povo como a um só homem, então as nações, que antes ouviram a tua fama, falarão, dizendo:

15Now {if} thou shalt kill {all} this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

16Porquanto o Senhor não podia pôr este povo na terra que lhe tinha jurado; por isso os matou no deserto.

16Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

17Agora, pois, rogo-te que a força do meu Senhor se engrandeça; como tens falado, dizendo:

17And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18O Senhor é longânimo, e grande em misericórdia, que perdoa a iniqüidade e a transgressão, que o culpado não tem por inocente, e visita a iniqüidade dos pais sobre os filhos até a terceira e quarta geração.

18The LORD {is} longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing {the guilty}, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth {generation}.

19Perdoa, pois, a iniqüidade deste povo, segundo a grandeza da tua misericórdia; e como também perdoaste a este povo desde a terra do Egito até aqui.

19Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. {until...: or, hitherto}

20E disse o Senhor: Conforme à tua palavra lhe perdoei.

20And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

21Porém, tão certamente como eu vivo, e como a glória do Senhor encherá toda a terra,

21But {as} truly {as} I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22E que todos os homens que viram a minha glória e os meus sinais, que fiz no Egito e no deserto, e me tentaram estas dez vezes, e não obedeceram à minha voz,

22Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23Não verão a terra de que a seus pais jurei, e nenhum daqueles que me provocaram a verá.

23Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: {Surely...: Heb. If they see the land}

24Porém o meu servo Calebe, porquanto nele houve outro espírito, e perseverou em seguir-me, eu o levarei à terra em que entrou, e a sua descendência a possuirá em herança.

24But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25Ora, os amalequitas e os cananeus habitam no vale; tornai-vos amanhã e caminhai para o deserto pelo caminho do Mar Vermelho.

25(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26Depois falou o Senhor a Moisés e a Arão dizendo:

26And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27Até quando sofrerei esta má congregação, que murmura contra mim? Tenho ouvido as murmurações dos filhos de Israel, com que murmuram contra mim.

27How long {shall I bear with} this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

28Dize-lhes: Vivo eu, diz o Senhor, que, como falastes aos meus ouvidos, assim farei a vós outros.

28Say unto them, {As truly as} I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

29Neste deserto cairão os vossos cadáveres, como também todos os que de vós foram contados segundo toda a vossa conta, de vinte anos para cima, os que dentre vós contra mim murmurastes;

29Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

30Não entrareis na terra, pela qual levantei a minha mão que vos faria habitar nela, salvo Calebe, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Num.

30Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, {concerning} which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. {sware: Heb. lifted up my hand}

31Mas os vossos filhos, de que dizeis: Por presa serão, porei nela; e eles conhecerão a terra que vós desprezastes.

31But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

32Porém, quanto a vós, os vossos cadáveres cairão neste deserto.

32But {as for} you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

33E vossos filhos pastorearão neste deserto quarenta anos, e levarão sobre si as vossas infidelidades, até que os vossos cadáveres se consumam neste deserto.

33And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. {wander: or, feed}

34Segundo o número dos dias em que espiastes esta terra, quarenta dias, cada dia representando um ano, levareis sobre vós as vossas iniqüidades quarenta anos, e conhecereis o meu afastamento.

34After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, {even} forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, {even} forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. {breach...: or, altering of my purpose}

35Eu, o Senhor, falei; assim farei a toda esta má congregação, que se levantou contra mim; neste deserto se consumirão, e aí falecerão.

35I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36E os homens que Moisés mandara a espiar a terra, e que, voltando, fizeram murmurar toda a congregação contra ele, infamando a terra,

36And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

37Aqueles mesmos homens que infamaram a terra, morreram de praga perante o Senhor.

37Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

38Mas Josué, filho de Num, e Calebe, filho de Jefoné, que eram dos homens que foram espiar a terra, ficaram com vida.

38But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, {which were} of the men that went to search the land, lived {still}.

39E falou Moisés estas palavras a todos os filhos de Israel; então o povo se contristou muito.

39And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

40E levantaram-se pela manhã de madrugada, e subiram ao cume do monte, dizendo: Eis-nos aqui, e subiremos ao lugar que o Senhor tem falado; porquanto havemos pecado.

40And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we {be here}, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

41Mas Moisés disse: Por que transgredis o mandado do Senhor? Pois isso não prosperará.

41And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

42Não subais, pois o Senhor não estará no meio de vós, para que não sejais feridos diante dos vossos inimigos.

42Go not up, for the LORD {is} not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

43Porque os amalequitas e os cananeus estão ali diante da vossa face, e caireis à espada; pois, porquanto vos desviastes do Senhor, o Senhor não estará convosco.

43For the Amalekites and the Canaanites {are} there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

44Contudo, temerariamente, tentaram subir ao cume do monte; mas a arca da aliança do Senhor e Moisés não se apartaram do meio do arraial.

44But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

45Então desceram os amalequitas e os cananeus, que habitavam na montanha, e os feriram, derrotando-os até Hormá.

45Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, {even} unto Hormah.
