1Quando a menina completou um ano, Joaquim deu um grande banquete.

1When the girl completed one year, Joachim gave a great banquet.

2Os sacerdotes abençoaram a menina: 'Ó Deus, dá-lhe um nome glorioso e eterno por todas as gerações.'

2The priests blessed the girl: 'O God, give her a glorious and eternal name through all generations.'

3Maria permaneceu no templo como uma pombinha, recebendo alimento pelas mãos de um anjo.

3Mary remained in the temple like a dove, receiving food from the hands of an angel.

4Ao completar doze anos, os sacerdotes reuniram-se para deliberar sobre seu futuro.

4When she completed twelve years, the priests gathered to deliberate about her future.

5O sumo sacerdote entrou no Santo dos Santos e orou por ela.

5The high priest entered the Holy of Holies and prayed for her.

6Um anjo disse: 'Reúne todos os viúvos do povoado. Cada um virá com um bastão.'

6An angel said: 'Gather all the widowers of the town. Each one shall come with a staff.'

7Aquele em cujo bastão o Senhor fizer um sinal, deste será ela a esposa.
