1Havia um homem muito rico, de nome Joaquim, que fazia suas oferendas em quantidade dobrada.

1There was a very rich man, named Joachim, who made his offerings in double quantities.

2Rubem disse a Joaquim: 'Não te é lícito oferecer tuas dádivas, enquanto não tiveres gerado um rebento em Israel.'

2Reuben said to Joachim: 'It is not lawful for you to offer your gifts, while you have not begotten offspring in Israel.'

3Joaquim mortificou-se e consultou os arquivos de Israel para verificar a genealogia.

5Joaquim ficou atormentado, retirou-se para o deserto e jejuou por quarenta dias e quarenta noites.

6Ana lamentava-se e gemia dolorosamente por sua viuvez e esterilidade.

7Eis que apareceu o anjo de Deus, dizendo: 'Ana, o Senhor escutou teus rogos! Conceberás e darás à luz.'
