Mateus 23

1Então falou Jesus à multidão, e aos seus discípulos,

1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

2Dizendo: Na cadeira de Moisés estão assentados os escribas e fariseus.

2Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

3Todas as coisas, pois, que vos disserem que observeis, observai-as e fazei-as; mas não procedais em conformidade com as suas obras, porque dizem e não fazem;

3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, {that} observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

4Pois atam fardos pesados e difíceis de suportar, e os põem aos ombros dos homens; eles, porém, nem com seu dedo querem movê-los;

4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay {them} on men's shoulders; but they {themselves} will not move them with one of their fingers.

5E fazem todas as obras a fim de serem vistos pelos homens; pois trazem largos filactérios, e alargam as franjas das suas vestes,

5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, {phylacteries: pieces of parchment containing sentences of the law}

6E amam os primeiros lugares nas ceias e as primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas,

6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

7E as saudações nas praças, e o serem chamados pelos homens; Rabi, Rabi.

7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

8Vós, porém, não queirais ser chamados Rabi, porque um só é o vosso Mestre, a saber, o Cristo, e todos vós sois irmãos.

8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, {even} Christ; and all ye are brethren.

9E a ninguém na terra chameis vosso pai, porque um só é o vosso Pai, o qual está nos céus.

9And call no {man} your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

10Nem vos chameis mestres, porque um só é o vosso Mestre, que é o Cristo.

10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, {even} Christ.

11O maior dentre vós será vosso servo.

11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

12E o que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado; e o que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado.

12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13Mas ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que fechais aos homens o reino dos céus; e nem vós entrais nem deixais entrar aos que estão entrando.

13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in {yourselves}, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

14Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que devorais as casas das viúvas, sob pretexto de prolongadas orações; por isso sofrereis mais rigoroso juízo.

14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

15Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que percorreis o mar e a terra para fazer um prosélito; e, depois de o terdes feito, o fazeis filho do inferno duas vezes mais do que vós.

15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

16Ai de vós, condutores cegos! pois que dizeis: Qualquer que jurar pelo templo, isso nada é; mas o que jurar pelo ouro do templo, esse é devedor.

16Woe unto you, {ye} blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

17Insensatos e cegos! Pois qual é maior: o ouro, ou o templo, que santifica o ouro?

17{Ye} fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

18E aquele que jurar pelo altar isso nada é; mas aquele que jurar pela oferta que está sobre o altar, esse é devedor.

18And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. {guilty: or, debtor, or, bound}

19Insensatos e cegos! Pois qual é maior: a oferta, ou o altar, que santifica a oferta?

19{Ye} fools and blind: for whether {is} greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

20Portanto, o que jurar pelo altar, jura por ele e por tudo o que sobre ele está;

20Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

21E, o que jurar pelo templo, jura por ele e por aquele que nele habita;

21And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

22E, o que jurar pelo céu, jura pelo trono de Deus e por aquele que está assentado nele.

22And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que dizimais a hortelã, o endro e o cominho, e desprezais o mais importante da lei, o juízo, a misericórdia e a fé; deveis, porém, fazer estas coisas, e não omitir aquelas.

23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier {matters} of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. {anise: Gr. dill}

24Condutores cegos! que coais um mosquito e engulis um camelo.

24{Ye} blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

25Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que limpais o exterior do copo e do prato, mas o interior está cheio de rapina e de intemperança.

25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26Fariseu cego! limpa primeiro o interior do copo e do prato, para que também o exterior fique limpo.

26{Thou} blind Pharisee, cleanse first that {which is} within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que sois semelhantes aos sepulcros caiados, que por fora realmente parecem formosos, mas interiormente estão cheios de ossos de mortos e de toda a imundícia.

27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead {men's} bones, and of all uncleanness.

28Assim também vós exteriormente pareceis justos aos homens, mas interiormente estais cheios de hipocrisia e de iniqüidade.

28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus, hipócritas! pois que edificais os sepulcros dos profetas e adornais os monumentos dos justos,

29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30E dizeis: Se existíssemos no tempo de nossos pais, nunca nos associaríamos com eles para derramar o sangue dos profetas.

30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31Assim, vós mesmos testificais que sois filhos dos que mataram os profetas.

31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

32Enchei vós, pois, a medida de vossos pais.

32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

33Serpentes, raça de víboras! como escapareis da condenação do inferno?

33{Ye} serpents, {ye} generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34Portanto, eis que eu vos envio profetas, sábios e escribas; a uns deles matareis e crucificareis; e a outros deles açoitareis nas vossas sinagogas e os perseguireis de cidade em cidade;

34Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and {some} of them ye shall kill and crucify; and {some} of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute {them} from city to city:

35Para que sobre vós caia todo o sangue justo, que foi derramado sobre a terra, desde o sangue de Abel, o justo, até ao sangue de Zacarias, filho de Baraquias, que matastes entre o santuário e o altar.

35That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36Em verdade vos digo que todas estas coisas hão de vir sobre esta geração.

36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas, e apedrejas os que te são enviados! quantas vezes quis eu ajuntar os teus filhos, como a galinha ajunta os seus pintos debaixo das asas, e tu não quiseste!

37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, {thou} that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under {her} wings, and ye would not!

38Eis que a vossa casa vai ficar-vos deserta;

38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

39Porque eu vos digo que desde agora me não vereis mais, até que digais: Bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor.

39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed {is} he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
