Mateus 17

1Seis dias depois, tomou Jesus consigo a Pedro, e a Tiago, e a João, seu irmão, e os conduziu em particular a um alto monte,

1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

2E transfigurou-se diante deles; e o seu rosto resplandeceu como o sol, e as suas vestes se tornaram brancas como a luz.

2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

3E eis que lhes apareceram Moisés e Elias, falando com ele.

3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

4E Pedro, tomando a palavra, disse a Jesus: Senhor, bom é estarmos aqui; se queres, façamos aqui três tabernáculos, um para ti, um para Moisés, e um para Elias.

4Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

5E, estando ele ainda a falar, eis que uma nuvem luminosa os cobriu. E da nuvem saiu uma voz que dizia: Este é o meu amado Filho, em quem me comprazo; escutai-o.

5While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

6E os discípulos, ouvindo isto, caíram sobre os seus rostos, e tiveram grande medo.

6And when the disciples heard {it}, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

7E, aproximando-se Jesus, tocou-lhes, e disse: Levantai-vos, e não tenhais medo.

7And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

8E, erguendo eles os olhos, ninguém viram senão unicamente a Jesus.

8And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

9E, descendo eles do monte, Jesus lhes ordenou, dizendo: A ninguém conteis a visão, até que o Filho do homem seja ressuscitado dentre os mortos.

9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

10E os seus discípulos o interrogaram, dizendo: Por que dizem então os escribas que é mister que Elias venha primeiro?

10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

11E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Em verdade Elias virá primeiro, e restaurará todas as coisas;

11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

12Mas digo-vos que Elias já veio, e não o conheceram, mas fizeram-lhe tudo o que quiseram. Assim farão eles também padecer o Filho do homem.

12But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

13Então entenderam os discípulos que lhes falara de João o Batista.

13Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

14E, quando chegaram à multidão, aproximou-se-lhe um homem, pondo-se de joelhos diante dele, e dizendo:

14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a {certain} man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15Senhor, tem misericórdia de meu filho, que é lunático e sofre muito; pois muitas vezes cai no fogo, e muitas vezes na água;

15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16E trouxe-o aos teus discípulos; e não puderam curá-lo.

16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17E Jesus, respondendo, disse: Ó geração incrédula e perversa! até quando estarei eu convosco, e até quando vos sofrerei? Trazeimo aqui.

17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18E, repreendeu Jesus o demônio, que saiu dele, e desde aquela hora o menino sarou.

18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19Então os discípulos, aproximando-se de Jesus em particular, disseram: Por que não pudemos nós expulsá-lo?

19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20E Jesus lhes disse: Por causa de vossa incredulidade; porque em verdade vos digo que, se tiverdes fé como um grão de mostarda, direis a este monte: Passa daqui para acolá, e há de passar; e nada vos será impossível.

20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21Mas esta casta de demônios não se expulsa senão pela oração e pelo jejum.

21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

22Ora, achando-se eles na Galiléia, disse-lhes Jesus: O Filho do homem será entregue nas mãos dos homens;

22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

23E matá-lo-ão, e ao terceiro dia ressuscitará. E eles se entristeceram muito.

23And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

24E, chegando eles a Cafarnaum, aproximaram-se de Pedro os que cobravam as dracmas, e disseram: O vosso mestre não paga as dracmas?

24And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute {money} came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? {tribute: called in the original, didrachma, being in value fifteen pence sterling; about thirty seven cents}

25Disse ele: Sim. E, entrando em casa, Jesus se lhe antecipou, dizendo: Que te parece, Simão? De quem cobram os reis da terra os tributos, ou o censo? Dos seus filhos, ou dos alheios?

25He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

26Disse-lhe Pedro: Dos alheios. Disse-lhe Jesus: Logo, estão livres os filhos.

26Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

27Mas, para que os não escandalizemos, vai ao mar, lança o anzol, tira o primeiro peixe que subir, e abrindo-lhe a boca, encontrarás um estáter; toma-o, e dá-o por mim e por ti.

27Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. {a piece...: or, a stater: it is half an ounce of silver, in value two shillings and six pence, sterling; about fifty five cents}
