Mateus 11

1E aconteceu que, acabando Jesus de dar instruções aos seus doze discípulos, partiu dali a ensinar e a pregar nas cidades deles.

1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

2E João, ouvindo no cárcere falar dos feitos de Cristo, enviou dois dos seus discípulos,

2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

3A dizer-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?

3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Ide, e anunciai a João as coisas que ouvis e vedes:

4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

5Os cegos vêem, e os coxos andam; os leprosos são limpos, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são ressuscitados, e aos pobres é anunciado o evangelho.

5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6E bem-aventurado é aquele que não se escandalizar em mim.

6And blessed is {he}, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

7E, partindo eles, começou Jesus a dizer às turbas, a respeito de João: Que fostes ver no deserto? uma cana agitada pelo vento?

7And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8Sim, que fostes ver? um homem ricamente vestido? Os que trajam ricamente estão nas casas dos reis.

8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft {clothing} are in kings' houses.

9Mas, então que fostes ver? um profeta? Sim, vos digo eu, e muito mais do que profeta;

9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10Porque é este de quem está escrito:Eis que diante da tua face envio o meu anjo,que preparará diante de ti o teu caminho.

10For this is {he}, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11Em verdade vos digo que, entre os que de mulher têm nascido, não apareceu alguém maior do que João o Batista; mas aquele que é o menor no reino dos céus é maior do que ele.

11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12E, desde os dias de João o Batista até agora, se faz violência ao reino dos céus, e pela força se apoderam dele.

12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. {suffereth...: or, is gotten by force, and they that thrust men}

13Porque todos os profetas e a lei profetizaram até João.

13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14E, se quereis dar crédito, é este o Elias que havia de vir.

14And if ye will receive {it}, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.

15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16Mas, a quem assemelharei esta geração? É semelhante aos meninos que se assentam nas praças, e clamam aos seus companheiros,

16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

17E dizem: Tocamo-vos flauta, e não dançastes; cantamo-vos lamentações, e não chorastes.

17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

18Porquanto veio João, não comendo nem bebendo, e dizem: Tem demônio.

18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19Veio o Filho do homem, comendo e bebendo, e dizem: Eis aí um homem comilão e beberrão, amigo dos publicanos e pecadores. Mas a sabedoria é justificada por seus filhos.

19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

20Então começou ele a lançar em rosto às cidades onde se operou a maior parte dos seus prodígios o não se haverem arrependido, dizendo:

20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21Ai de ti, Corazim! ai de ti, Betsaida! porque, se em Tiro e em Sidom fossem feitos os prodígios que em vós se fizeram, há muito que se teriam arrependido, com saco e com cinza.

21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22Por isso eu vos digo que haverá menos rigor para Tiro e Sidom, no dia do juízo, do que para vós.

22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23E tu, Cafarnaum, que te ergues até ao céu, serás abatida até ao inferno; porque, se em Sodoma tivessem sido feitos os prodígios que em ti se operaram, teria ela permanecido até hoje.

23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24Eu vos digo, porém, que haverá menos rigor para os de Sodoma, no dia do juízo, do que para ti.

24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25Naquele tempo, respondendo Jesus, disse: Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, que ocultaste estas coisas aos sábios e entendidos, e as revelaste aos pequeninos.

25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

26Sim, ó Pai, porque assim te aprouve.

26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

27Todas as coisas me foram entregues por meu Pai, e ninguém conhece o Filho, senão o Pai; e ninguém conhece o Pai, senão o Filho, e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar.

27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and {he} to whomsoever the Son will reveal {him}.

28Vinde a mim, todos os que estais cansados e oprimidos, e eu vos aliviarei.

28Come unto me, all {ye} that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo, e aprendei de mim, que sou manso e humilde de coração; e encontrareis descanso para as vossas almas.

29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30Porque o meu jugo é suave e o meu fardo é leve.

30For my yoke {is} easy, and my burden is light.
