1Capítulo 5 — A partida e a visão de Policarpo.

1Chapter 5 — The departure and vision of Polycarp.

2Mas o admirável Policarpo, quando soube pela primeira vez que era procurado, não se perturbou em nada, mas resolveu continuar na cidade.

2But the most admirable Polycarp, when he first heard that he was sought for, was in no measure disturbed, but resolved to continue in the city.

3No entanto, em deferência ao desejo de muitos, ele foi persuadido a abandoná-lo.

3However, in deference to the wish of many, he was persuaded to leave it.

4Partiu, portanto, para uma casa de campo não muito distante da cidade.

4He departed, therefore, to a country house not far distant from the city.

5Lá ele ficou com alguns amigos, não se dedicando noite e dia a nada além de orar por todos os homens e pelas Igrejas em todo o mundo, de acordo com seu costume habitual.

5There he stayed with a few friends, engaged in nothing else night and day than praying for all men, and for the Churches throughout the world, according to his usual custom.

6E enquanto ele estava orando, uma visão lhe apresentou três dias antes de ser levado; e eis que o travesseiro sob sua cabeça lhe pareceu em chamas.

6And while he was praying, a vision presented itself to him three days before he was taken; and, behold, the pillow under his head seemed to him on fire.

7Diante disso, voltando-se para os que estavam com ele, disse-lhes profeticamente: “Devo ser queimado vivo”.

7Upon this, turning to those that were with him, he said to them prophetically, "I must be burnt alive".
