1Capítulo 15 — Policarpo não é ferido pelo fogo.

1Chapter 15 — Polycarp is not injured by the fire.

2Quando ele pronunciou este amém e terminou sua oração, aqueles que foram designados para esse propósito acenderam o fogo.

2When he had pronounced this amen, and so finished his prayer, those who were appointed for the purpose kindled the fire.

3E enquanto a chama ardia com grande fúria, nós, a quem foi dado testemunhar, vimos um grande milagre e fomos preservados para que pudéssemos relatar a outros o que então aconteceu.

3And as the flame blazed forth in great fury, we, to whom it was given to witness it, beheld a great miracle, and have been preserved that we might report to others what then took place.

4Pois o fogo, moldando-se em forma de arco, como a vela de um navio quando cheia de vento, envolveu como que num círculo o corpo do mártir.

4For the fire, shaping itself into the form of an arch, like the sail of a ship when filled with the wind, encompassed as by a circle the body of the martyr.

5E ele apareceu por dentro não como carne queimada, mas como pão assado, ou como ouro e prata brilhando em uma fornalha.

5And he appeared within not like flesh which is burnt, but as bread that is baked, or as gold and silver glowing in a furnace.

6Além disso, percebemos um odor tão doce vindo da pilha, como se olíbano ou alguma dessas especiarias preciosas tivessem fumegado ali.

6Moreover, we perceived such a sweet odour coming from the pile, as if frankincense or some such precious spices had been smoking there.
