1Capítulo 10 — Policarpo confessa-se cristão.

1Chapter 10 — Polycarp confesses himself a Christian.

2E quando o procônsul mais uma vez o pressionou e disse: “Jure pela fortuna de César”, ele respondeu: “Já que você insiste em vão que, como diz, eu jure pela fortuna de César, e finja não saber quem e o que sou, ouça-me declarar com ousadia: sou um cristão.

2And when the proconsul yet again pressed him, and said, "Swear by the fortune of Caesar," he answered, "Since thou art vainly urgent that, as thou sayest, I should swear by the fortune of Caesar, and pretendest not to know who and what I am, hear me declare with boldness, I am a Christian.

3E se você deseja aprender quais são as doutrinas do Cristianismo, marque-me um dia e você as ouvirá”.

3And if you wish to learn what the doctrines of Christianity are, appoint me a day, and thou shalt hear them".

4O procônsul respondeu: “Persuadir o povo”.

4The proconsul replied, "Persuade the people".

5Mas Policarpo disse: “A ti considerei correto oferecer um relato de minha fé; pois somos ensinados a dar toda a honra devida (o que não implica nenhum dano para nós mesmos) aos poderes e autoridades que são ordenados por Deus.

5But Polycarp said, "To thee I have thought it right to offer an account of my faith; for we are taught to give all due honour (which entails no injury upon ourselves) to the powers and authorities which are ordained of God.

6Mas quanto a estes, não os considero dignos de receber qualquer conta de mim”.

6But as for these, I do not deem them worthy of receiving any account from me".
