Livro de Jasher 75

1Naquele tempo, no ano cento e oitenta da descida dos israelitas ao Egito, saíram do Egito homens valentes, trinta mil a pé, dos filhos de Israel, todos da tribo de José, dos filhos de Efraim, filho de José.

1At that time, in the hundred and eightieth year of the Israelites going down into Egypt, there went forth from Egypt valiant men, thirty thousand on foot, from the children of Israel, who were all of the tribe of Joseph, of the children of Ephraim the son of Joseph.

2Pois diziam que se completou o período que o Senhor designara aos filhos de Israel nos tempos antigos, que falara a Abraão.

2For they said the period was completed which the Lord had appointed to the children of Israel in the times of old, which he had spoken to Abraham.

3E estes homens cingiram-se e puseram cada homem a sua espada ao seu lado, e cada homem a sua armadura sobre ele, e confiaram na sua força, e saíram juntos do Egito com mão poderosa.

3And these men girded themselves, and they put each man his sword at his side, and every man his armor upon him, and they trusted to their strength, and they went out together from Egypt with a mighty hand.

4Mas eles não trouxeram provisões para a estrada, apenas prata e ouro, nem mesmo pão para aquele dia trouxeram em suas mãos, pois pensavam em receber dos filisteus suas provisões como pagamento, e se não, tomá-las-iam à força.

4But they brought no provision for the road, only silver and gold, not even bread for that day did they bring in their hands, for they thought of getting their provision for pay from the Philistines, and if not they would take it by force.

5E esses homens eram homens muito poderosos e valentes, um homem poderia perseguir mil e dois poderiam derrotar dez mil, então eles confiaram em sua força e seguiram juntos como estavam.

5And these men were very mighty and valiant men, one man could pursue a thousand and two could rout ten thousand, so they trusted to their strength and went together as they were.

6E eles dirigiram seu curso para a terra de Gate, e desceram e encontraram os pastores de Gate alimentando o gado dos filhos de Gate.

6And they directed their course toward the land of Gath, and they went down and found the shepherds of Gath feeding the cattle of the children of Gath.

7E disseram aos pastores: Dai-nos algumas das ovelhas como pagamento, para que comamos, porque temos fome, porque hoje não comemos pão.

7And they said to the shepherds, Give us some of the sheep for pay, that we may eat, for we are hungry, for we have eaten no bread this day.

8E os pastores disseram: São ovelhas ou bois nossos, para que vos demos dar, ainda que por pagamento? então os filhos de Efraim se aproximaram para capturá-los à força.

8And the shepherds said, Are they our sheep or cattle that we should give them to you even for pay? so the children of Ephraim approached to take them by force.

9E os pastores de Gate gritaram sobre eles que seu clamor foi ouvido à distância, então todos os filhos de Gate foram até eles.

9And the shepherds of Gath shouted over them that their cry was heard at a distance, so all the children of Gath went out to them.

10E quando os filhos de Gate viram as más ações dos filhos de Efraim, eles retornaram e reuniram os homens de Gate, e vestiram cada homem com sua armadura, e saíram para a batalha contra os filhos de Efraim.

10And when the children of Gath saw the evil doings of the children of Ephraim, they returned and assembled the men of Gath, and they put on each man his armor, and came forth to the children of Ephraim for battle.

11E eles lutaram com eles no vale de Gate, e a batalha foi severa, e eles derrotaram uns aos outros muitos naquele dia.

11And they engaged with them in the valley of Gath, and the battle was severe, and they smote from each other a great many on that day.

12E no segundo dia os filhos de Gate enviaram a todas as cidades dos filisteus para que viessem em seu socorro, dizendo:

12And on the second day the children of Gath sent to all the cities of the Philistines that they should come to their help, saying,

13Suba até nós e ajude-nos, para que possamos ferir os filhos de Efraim que vieram do Egito para tomar nosso gado e lutar contra nós sem justa causa.

13Come up unto us and help us, that we may smite the children of Ephraim who have come forth from Egypt to take our cattle, and to fight against us without cause.

14Ora, as almas dos filhos de Efraim estavam exaustas de fome e sede, porque já fazia três dias que não comiam pão. E quarenta mil homens saíram das cidades dos filisteus para ajudar os homens de Gate.

14Now the souls of the children of Ephraim were exhausted with hunger and thirst, for they had eaten no bread for three days. And forty thousand men went forth from the cities of the Philistines to the assistance of the men of Gath.

15E estes homens travaram batalha contra os filhos de Efraim, e o Senhor entregou os filhos de Efraim nas mãos dos filisteus.

15And these men were engaged in battle with the children of Ephraim, and the Lord delivered the children of Ephraim into the hands of the Philistines.

16E feriram todos os filhos de Efraim, todos os que tinham saído do Egito, não restando nenhum senão dez homens que fugiram do combate.

16And they smote all the children of Ephraim, all who had gone forth from Egypt, none were remaining but ten men who had run away from the engagement.

17Pois este mal veio do Senhor contra os filhos de Efraim, pois eles transgrediram a palavra do Senhor ao sair do Egito, antes que chegasse o período que o Senhor nos tempos antigos havia designado para Israel.

17For this evil was from the Lord against the children of Ephraim, for they transgressed the word of the Lord in going forth from Egypt, before the period had arrived which the Lord in the days of old had appointed to Israel.

18E também dos filisteus caiu um grande número, cerca de vinte mil homens, e seus irmãos os levaram e os enterraram em suas cidades.

18And of the Philistines also there fell a great many, about twenty thousand men, and their brethren carried them and buried them in their cities.

19E os mortos dos filhos de Efraim permaneceram abandonados no vale de Gate por muitos dias e anos, e não foram levados ao sepultamento, e o vale ficou cheio de ossos de homens.

19And the slain of the children of Ephraim remained forsaken in the valley of Gath for many days and years, and were not brought to burial, and the valley was filled with men's bones.

20E os homens que escaparam da batalha vieram ao Egito e contaram a todos os filhos de Israel tudo o que lhes havia acontecido.

20And the men who had escaped from the battle came to Egypt, and told all the children of Israel all that had befallen them.

21E Efraim, seu pai, lamentou-os por muitos dias, e seus irmãos vieram consolá-lo.

21And their father Ephraim mourned over them for many days, and his brethren came to console him.

22E ele veio para sua esposa e ela deu à luz um filho, e ele chamou seu nome de Berias, pois ela era infeliz em sua casa.

22And he came unto his wife and she bare a son, and he called his name Beriah, for she was unfortunate in his house.
