1E naqueles dias, no nonagésimo primeiro ano da vida de Abrão, os filhos de Quitim fizeram guerra com os filhos de Tubal, pois quando o Senhor espalhou os filhos dos homens sobre a face da terra, os filhos de Quitim foram e se encarnaram na planície de Canopia, e ali construíram cidades e habitaram junto ao rio Tibreu.

1And in those days, in the ninety-first year of the life of Abram, the children of Chittim made war with the children of Tubal, for when the Lord had scattered the sons of men upon the face of the earth, the children of Chittim went and embodied themselves in the plain of Canopia, and they built themselves cities there and dwelt by the river Tibreu.

2E os filhos de Tubal habitaram em Tuscanah, e seus limites alcançaram o rio Tibreu, e os filhos de Tubal construíram uma cidade em Tuscanan, e chamaram o nome de Sabinah, após o nome de Sabinah, filho de Tubal, seu pai, e eles moraram lá até hoje.

2And the children of Tubal dwelt in Tuscanah, and their boundaries reached the river Tibreu, and the children of Tubal built a city in Tuscanan, and they called the name Sabinah, after the name of Sabinah son of Tubal their father, and they dwelt there unto this day.

3E foi naquela época que os filhos de Chittim fizeram guerra com os filhos de Tubal, e os filhos de Tubal foram derrotados diante dos filhos de Chittim, e os filhos de Chittim fizeram com que trezentos e setenta homens caíssem dos filhos de Tubal.

3And it was at that time the children of Chittim made war with the children of Tubal, and the children of Tubal were smitten before the children of Chittim, and the children of Chittim caused three hundred and seventy men to fall from the children of Tubal.

4E naquele momento os filhos de Tubal juraram aos filhos de Chittim, dizendo: Vocês não se casarão entre nós, e nenhum homem dará sua filha a qualquer um dos filhos de Chittim.

4And at that time the children of Tubal swore to the children of Chittim, saying, You shall not intermarry amongst us, and no man shall give his daughter to any of the sons of Chittim.

5Pois todas as filhas de Tubal eram naqueles dias belas, pois nenhuma mulher era então encontrada em toda a terra tão bela quanto as filhas de Tubal.

5For all the daughters of Tubal were in those days fair, for no women were then found in the whole earth so fair as the daughters of Tubal.

6E todos os que se deleitavam com a beleza das mulheres foram até as filhas de Tubal e tomaram esposas delas, e os filhos dos homens, reis e príncipes, que se deleitaram muito com a beleza das mulheres, tomaram esposas naqueles dias das filhas de Tubal.

6And all who delighted in the beauty of women went to the daughters of Tubal and took wives from them, and the sons of men, kings and princes, who greatly delighted in the beauty of women, took wives in those days from the daughters of Tubal.

7E no final de três anos após os filhos de Tubal terem jurado aos filhos de Chittim não lhes darem suas filhas como esposas, cerca de vinte homens dos filhos de Chittim foram levar algumas das filhas de Tubal, mas não encontraram nenhuma.

7And at the end of three years after the children of Tubal had sworn to the children of Chittim not to give them their daughters for wives, about twenty men of the children of Chittim went to take some of the daughters of Tubal, but they found none.

8Pois os filhos de Tubal mantiveram o juramento de não se casarem com eles e não quebraram o juramento.

8For the children of Tubal kept their oaths not to intermarry with them, and they would not break their oaths.

9E nos dias da colheita os filhos de Tubal foram para seus campos para fazer a colheita, quando os jovens de Chittim se reuniram e foram para a cidade de Sabinah, e cada homem tomou uma jovem das filhas de Tubal, e eles vieram para suas cidades.

9And in the days of harvest the children of Tubal went into their fields to get in their harvest, when the young men of Chittim assembled and went to the city of Sabinah, and each man took a young woman from the daughters of Tubal, and they came to their cities.

10E os filhos de Tubal ouviram falar disso e foram fazer guerra com eles, e não puderam prevalecer sobre eles, pois a montanha era muito alta deles, e quando viram que não poderiam prevalecer sobre eles, retornaram para sua terra.

10And the children of Tubal heard of it and they went to make war with them, and they could not prevail over them, for the mountain was exceedingly high from them, and when they saw they could not prevail over them they returned to their land.

11E na revolução do ano os filhos de Tubal foram e contrataram cerca de dez mil homens daquelas cidades que estavam perto deles, e eles foram para a guerra com os filhos de Chittim.

11And at the revolution of the year the children of Tubal went and hired about ten thousand men from those cities that were near them, and they went to war with the children of Chittim.

12E os filhos de Tubal foram à guerra com os filhos de Chittim, para destruir suas terras e angustiá-los, e neste combate os filhos de Tubal prevaleceram sobre os filhos de Chittim, e os filhos de Chittim, vendo que estavam muito angustiados, levantaram os filhos que tinham tido das filhas de Tubal, sobre o muro que havia sido construído, para estarem diante dos olhos dos filhos de Tubal.

12And the children of Tubal went to war with the children of Chittim, to destroy their land and to distress them, and in this engagement the children of Tubal prevailed over the children of Chittim, and the children of Chittim, seeing that they were greatly distressed, lifted up the children which they had had by the daughters of Tubal, upon the wall which had been built, to be before the eyes of the children of Tubal.

13E os filhos de Chittim disseram-lhes: Vocês vieram para fazer guerra com seus próprios filhos e filhas, e não fomos considerados sua carne e ossos desde então até agora?

13And the children of Chittim said to them, Have you come to make war with your own sons and daughters, and have we not been considered your flesh and bones from that time till now?

14E quando os filhos de Tubal ouviram isso, eles pararam de fazer guerra com os filhos de Chittim e foram embora.

14And when the children of Tubal heard this they ceased to make war with the children of Chittim, and they went away.

15E eles retornaram para suas cidades, e os filhos de Chittim naquela época se reuniram e construíram duas cidades à beira-mar, e chamaram uma de Purtu e a outra de Ariza.

15And they returned to their cities, and the children of Chittim at that time assembled and built two cities by the sea, and they called one Purtu and the other Ariza.

16E Abrão, filho de Terá, tinha então noventa e nove anos.

16And Abram the son of Terah was then ninety-nine years old.

17Naquele tempo o Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: Farei a minha aliança entre mim e ti, e multiplicarei grandemente a tua descendência, e esta é a aliança que faço entre mim e ti, que todo filho do sexo masculino seja circuncidado, tu e a tua descendência depois de ti.

17At that time the Lord appeared to him and he said to him, I will make my covenant between me and thee, and I will greatly multiply thy seed, and this is the covenant which I make between me and thee, that every male child be circumcised, thou and thy seed after thee.

18Aos oito dias de idade será circuncidado, e esta aliança estará na vossa carne por aliança eterna.

18At eight days old shall it be circumcised, and this covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

19E agora, portanto, teu nome não será mais chamado Abrão, mas Abraão, e tua esposa não será mais chamada Sarai, mas Sara.

19And now therefore thy name shall no more be called Abram but Abraham, and thy wife shall no more be called Sarai but Sarah.

20Pois abençoarei a ambos e multiplicarei a sua descendência depois de você, para que você se torne uma grande nação e reis surgirão de você.

20For I will bless you both, and I will multiply your seed after you that you shall become a great nation, and kings shall come forth from you.
