Livro de Jasher 14

1Naqueles dias havia na terra de Sinar um homem sábio, entendido em toda a sabedoria e de bela aparência, mas era pobre e indigente; seu nome era Rikayon e ele tinha dificuldade em se sustentar.

1In those days there was in the land of Shinar a wise man who had understanding in all wisdom, and of a beautiful appearance, but he was poor and indigent; his name was Rikayon and he was hard set to support himself.

2E ele resolveu ir ao Egito, a Oswiris, filho de Anom, rei do Egito, para mostrar ao rei sua sabedoria; pois talvez ele pudesse encontrar graça aos seus olhos, para ressuscitá-lo e dar-lhe sustento; e Rikayon fez isso.

2And he resolved to go to Egypt, to Oswiris the son of Anom king of Egypt, to show the king his wisdom; for perhaps he might find grace in his sight, to raise him up and give him maintenance; and Rikayon did so.

3E quando Rikayon veio ao Egito ele perguntou aos habitantes do Egito sobre o rei, e os habitantes do Egito lhe contaram o costume do rei do Egito, pois era então o costume do rei do Egito que ele saísse de seu palácio real e fosse visto no exterior apenas um dia no ano, e depois disso o rei retornaria ao seu palácio para permanecer lá.

3And when Rikayon came to Egypt he asked the inhabitants of Egypt concerning the king, and the inhabitants of Egypt told him the custom of the king of Egypt, for it was then the custom of the king of Egypt that he went from his royal palace and was seen abroad only one day in the year, and after that the king would return to his palace to remain there.

4E no dia em que o rei saiu, ele julgou a terra, e todo aquele que tinha uma demanda compareceu perante o rei naquele dia para obter seu pedido.

4And on the day when the king went forth he passed judgment in the land, and every one having a suit came before the king that day to obtain his request.

5E quando Rikayon ouviu falar do costume no Egito e que ele não poderia ir à presença do rei, ele sofreu muito e ficou muito triste.

5And when Rikayon heard of the custom in Egypt and that he could not come into the presence of the king, he grieved greatly and was very sorrowful.

6E à noite Rikayon saiu e encontrou uma casa em ruínas, antigamente uma padaria no Egito, e ele permaneceu lá a noite toda com amargura de alma e oprimido pela fome, e o sono foi removido de seus olhos.

6And in the evening Rikayon went out and found a house in ruins, formerly a bake house in Egypt, and he abode there all night in bitterness of soul and pinched with hunger, and sleep was removed from his eyes.

7E Rikayon considerou consigo mesmo o que deveria fazer na cidade até que o rei aparecesse, e como ele poderia se manter lá.

7And Rikayon considered within himself what he should do in the town until the king made his appearance, and how he might maintain himself there.

8E ele se levantou pela manhã e caminhou, e encontrou em seu caminho aqueles que vendiam legumes e vários tipos de sementes com os quais abasteciam os habitantes.

8And he rose in the morning and walked about, and met in his way those who sold vegetables and various sorts of seed with which they supplied the inhabitants.

9E Rikayon desejava fazer o mesmo para conseguir manutenção na cidade, mas ele não estava familiarizado com os costumes do povo e era como um cego entre eles.

9And Rikayon wished to do the same in order to get a maintenance in the city, but he was unacquainted with the custom of the people, and he was like a blind man among them.

10E ele foi e obteve vegetais para vendê-los para seu sustento, e a ralé se reuniu ao seu redor e o ridicularizou, e tirou dele seus vegetais e não lhe deixou nada.

10And he went and obtained vegetables to sell them for his support, and the rabble assembled about him and ridiculed him, and took his vegetables from him and left him nothing.

11E ele se levantou dali com amargura de alma e foi suspirando para a padaria onde havia permanecido a noite anterior, e dormiu lá na segunda noite.

11And he rose up from there in bitterness of soul, and went sighing to the bake house in which he had remained all the night before, and he slept there the second night.

12E naquela noite novamente ele raciocinou consigo mesmo como poderia salvar-se da fome e elaborou um esquema de como agir.

12And on that night again he reasoned within himself how he could save himself from starvation, and he devised a scheme how to act.

13E ele se levantou pela manhã e agiu engenhosamente, e foi e contratou trinta homens fortes da ralé, carregando seus instrumentos de guerra em suas mãos, e ele os conduziu até o topo do sepulcro egípcio, e os colocou lá.

13And he rose up in the morning and acted ingeniously, and went and hired thirty strong men of the rabble, carrying their war instruments in their hands, and he led them to the top of the Egyptian sepulchre, and he placed them there.

14E ele lhes ordenou, dizendo: Assim diz o rei: Fortalecei-vos e sede homens valentes, e que ninguém seja sepultado aqui até que duzentas moedas de prata sejam dadas, e então ele poderá ser sepultado; e aqueles homens fizeram de acordo com a ordem de Rikayon ao povo do Egito durante todo aquele ano.

14And he commanded them, saying, Thus saith the king, Strengthen yourselves and be valiant men, and let no man be buried here until two hundred pieces of silver be given, and then he may be buried; and those men did according to the order of Rikayon to the people of Egypt the whole of that year.

15E em oito meses Rikayon e seus homens reuniram grandes riquezas de prata e ouro, e Rikayon pegou uma grande quantidade de cavalos e outros animais, e ele contratou mais homens, e deu-lhes cavalos e eles permaneceram com ele.

15And in eight months time Rikayon and his men gathered great riches of silver and gold, and Rikayon took a great quantity of horses and other animals, and he hired more men, and he gave them horses and they remained with him.

16E quando o ano chegou, no momento em que o rei saiu para a cidade, todos os habitantes do Egito se reuniram para falar com ele sobre o trabalho de Rikayon e seus homens.

16And when the year came round, at the time the king went forth into the town, all the inhabitants of Egypt assembled together to speak to him concerning the work of Rikayon and his men.

17E o rei saiu no dia marcado, e todos os egípcios vieram diante dele e clamaram a ele, dizendo:

17And the king went forth on the appointed day, and all the Egyptians came before him and cried unto him, saying,

18Que o rei viva para sempre. O que é isso que você faz na cidade com seus servos, para não permitir que um cadáver seja enterrado até que tanta prata e ouro sejam dados? Já houve algo semelhante feito em toda a terra, desde os dias dos reis anteriores, sim, desde os dias de Adão, até hoje, para que os mortos não fossem enterrados apenas por um preço determinado?

18May the king live forever. What is this thing thou doest in the town to thy servants, not to suffer a dead body to be buried until so much silver and gold be given? Was there ever the like unto this done in the whole earth, from the days of former kings yea even from the days of Adam, unto this day, that the dead should not be buried only for a set price?

19Sabemos que é costume dos reis cobrar um imposto anual dos vivos, mas você não apenas faz isso, mas também cobra um imposto dos mortos, dia após dia.

19We know it to be the custom of kings to take a yearly tax from the living, but thou dost not only do this, but from the dead also thou exactest a tax day by day.

20Agora, ó rei, não podemos mais suportar isso, pois a cidade inteira está arruinada por causa disso, e você não sabe disso?

20Now, O king, we can no more bear this, for the whole city is ruined on this account, and dost thou not know it?

21E quando o rei ouviu tudo o que eles haviam falado, ele ficou muito irado, e sua raiva queimou dentro dele por causa desse assunto, pois ele não sabia de nada sobre isso.

21And when the king heard all that they had spoken he was very wroth, and his anger burned within him at this affair, for he had known nothing of it.

22E o rei disse: Quem e onde é aquele que ousa fazer esta coisa perversa na minha terra sem o meu comando? Certamente você vai me contar.

22And the king said, Who and where is he that dares to do this wicked thing in my land without my command? Surely you will tell me.

23E eles contaram a ele todos os trabalhos de Rikayon e seus homens, e a ira do rei foi despertada, e ele ordenou que Rikayon e seus homens fossem trazidos diante dele.

23And they told him all the works of Rikayon and his men, and the king's anger was aroused, and he ordered Rikayon and his men to be brought before him.

24E Rikayon tomou cerca de mil crianças, filhos e filhas, e os vestiu com seda e bordados, e ele os colocou em cavalos e os enviou ao rei por meio de seus homens, e ele também levou uma grande quantidade de prata e ouro e pedras preciosas, e um cavalo forte e bonito, como um presente para o rei, com o qual ele veio diante do rei e se curvou no chão diante dele; e o rei, seus servos e todos os habitantes do Egito se maravilharam com o trabalho de Rikayon, e viram suas riquezas e o presente que ele havia trazido ao rei.

24And Rikayon took about a thousand children, sons and daughters, and clothed them in silk and embroidery, and he set them upon horses and sent them to the king by means of his men, and he also took a great quantity of silver and gold and precious stones, and a strong and beautiful horse, as a present for the king, with which he came before the king and bowed down to the earth before him; and the king, his servants and all the inhabitants of Egypt wondered at the work of Rikayon, and they saw his riches and the present that he had brought to the king.

25E isso agradou muito ao rei e ele ficou maravilhado com isso; e quando Rikayon sentou-se diante dele o rei perguntou-lhe sobre todas as suas obras, e Rikayon falou todas as suas palavras sabiamente diante do rei, seus servos e todos os habitantes do Egito.

25And it greatly pleased the king and he wondered at it; and when Rikayon sat before him the king asked him concerning all his works, and Rikayon spoke all his words wisely before the king, his servants and all the inhabitants of Egypt.

26E quando o rei ouviu as palavras de Rikayon e sua sabedoria, Rikayon encontrou graça aos seus olhos, e ele encontrou graça e bondade de todos os servos do rei e de todos os habitantes do Egito, por causa de sua sabedoria e excelentes discursos, e desde então eles o amaram excessivamente.

26And when the king heard the words of Rikayon and his wisdom, Rikayon found grace in his sight, and he met with grace and kindness from all the servants of the king and from all the inhabitants of Egypt, on account of his wisdom and excellent speeches, and from that time they loved him exceedingly.

27E o rei respondeu e disse a Rikayon: Teu nome não será mais chamado Rikayon, mas Faraó será o teu nome, já que cobraste um imposto dos mortos; e ele chamou seu nome de Faraó.

27And the king answered and said to Rikayon, Thy name shall no more be called Rikayon but Pharaoh shall be thy name, since thou didst exact a tax from the dead; and he called his name Pharaoh.

28E o rei e seus súditos amaram Rikayon por sua sabedoria, e consultaram todos os habitantes do Egito para torná-lo prefeito do rei.

28And the king and his subjects loved Rikayon for his wisdom, and they consulted with all the inhabitants of Egypt to make him prefect under the king.

29E todos os habitantes do Egito e seus sábios fizeram assim, e isso foi feito uma lei no Egito.

29And all the inhabitants of Egypt and its wise men did so, and it was made a law in Egypt.

30E eles nomearam Rikayon Faraó prefeito sob Oswiris, rei do Egito, e Rikayon Faraó governou o Egito, diariamente administrando justiça para toda a cidade, mas Oswiris, o rei, julgaria o povo da terra um dia no ano, quando ele saísse para fazer sua aparição.

30And they made Rikayon Pharaoh prefect under Oswiris king of Egypt, and Rikayon Pharaoh governed over Egypt, daily administering justice to the whole city, but Oswiris the king would judge the people of the land one day in the year, when he went out to make his appearance.

31E o Faraó Rikayon usurpou astuciosamente o governo do Egito e cobrou um imposto de todos os habitantes do Egito.

31And Rikayon Pharaoh cunningly usurped the government of Egypt, and he exacted a tax from all the inhabitants of Egypt.

32E todos os habitantes do Egito amaram muito o Faraó Rikayon, e eles fizeram um decreto para chamar todo rei que deveria reinar sobre eles e sua semente no Egito, Faraó.

32And all the inhabitants of Egypt greatly loved Rikayon Pharaoh, and they made a decree to call every king that should reign over them and their seed in Egypt, Pharaoh.

33Por isso todos os reis que reinaram no Egito desde então foram chamados Faraó até hoje.

33Therefore all the kings that reigned in Egypt from that time forward were called Pharaoh unto this day.
